NOAC thing?

do you have to do anything to make the converter play NES games. I have this powerjoy and a converter but I am having problems getting it to play my games. I did get Mario/DH to work for a bit but had problems getting it to come back on. Do I need to short out the onboard games to get it to work?

I Have That noac too! i got it at goodwill for $3.03 i'm makin a portable out it also!

chanticlair281: You don't have to do anything special to get NES games to run, you might just try tilting the game back and forth (like a radio antenna) to see if it's just bad contact between the adapter and the powerjoy, you also need to make sure you have everything facing the right direction, just try inserting the adapter into the powerjoy in different directions and do the same with the cart. But there's no need for any electronic mods to get it to work at all.

josh: That's a pretty good deal, I got mine free with a $3 Genesis. However, I ended up frying it, so I used a MaxxPlay in stead

It turned out to be a bad game. I was trying to get my ninja Gaden to work and nothing but a black screen. I also got the same thing from my Ellway's Quarterback game. I have a few other games to hold me over. I guess it is not too important right now since I tore it appart and am working on a pNes. I am desoldering the 72 pin connector off of my adapter and I am going to wire it directly to the PCB. Does any one have any tips about wiring tact switches to the PCB? I want to build my on controller because the turbo buttons are were I need that regualar a and b buttons to be.

I usually just go to Radio Shack and buy a small piece of PCB then put the little tact switch legs through the holes and solder them on the other side. Then you just need to solder wires where the legs are (on the bottom side) then connect those to your turbo contacts on the NOAC board. That way you can relocate any buttons you want anywhere you want.

If you haven't desoldered the a/v wires yet then just use the contacts that they are connected to. Remeber to ground your a/v!

well the cables run into a plug and then the PCB has 4 prongs sticking up from it that slide into the plug. I guess I could snip the plug off and use a multimeter to determine which wires run from the RCA to the plug but I was just trying to see if anyone had already done this before me. Standing on the sholders of giants, ya know!

I found the schematics for the power joy. I've got the whole thing in my note book, but since you only need the a/v pinouts, I'll just post them.

This is looking at the board from the top (like if you were playing it)

Pins for a/v/p cable.
W|bl|G|Bl|R

W=White=Audio out.
bl=Blue=A/V ground.
G=Green=Composite Video (video).
Bl=Black=Ground.
R=Red=DC power in.

I hope this helps, these NOACs tend to differ from one to another (even if their the same unit, like in this case). So I hope this was at least close. One big thing that might be different is the colors of the a/v/p wires. Just remember that if they are different, they are still probably the same contacts, just different colors.

I broke out the multimeter last night and came to this same conclusion. thanks for posting. After determining the A/v settings I got excited and started hooking everything up. I accidently hooked 7.2v of power in to the video input on my lcd and I believe it is toast! I can still hear the sound and the back light comes on but no picture. Really stinks because the whole case was built around that screen. Now, I am pretty much back to square one except now I know where the video in put is on this screen. I do not know what type of screen it was. I think it was an Intec 5.4 screen. I got it and the psone at a yard sale for $15. Not too bad if you ask me. I just wish it would not have died. I would have my very frist portable built by this weekend had it not. Now I need to try and find the exact same monitor. Thanks for the specs. I could still use the rest of the information if you have it. Maybe we could make it a stickey or something so others can have it as well.
