I'm sure the connections are good. I scraped the wires with an exacto knife and made sure at least 50% of the wire had no insulation. However, I only stripped one side of the wire when i connected it to the cartridge slot itself.
For now I'll keep checking for stuff and such. Over the last 2 days the video went from nothing to kinda weird to weird but more weirdness then blackness than last time. (Also known as slightly improving)
Any other help would be great.
(Apparently Turbo, I didn't do as good of a job as you think I did, otherwise it'd be working.
I did spend a hell of a long time making it as good as I could do though.)

I was thinking about something like that being the problem. Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter with the beep function, so testing for shorts would be a REALLL pain. Besides, they're all intertwined or something.
Update:
Ermm... I twisted the wires around a bit, and now I'm getting less than I was before. (Which th(e/a)n to use? Then indicates time and than a direct comparison...)
Tomorrow I'll go replacing wires that look funny to me, and see what happens. Thanks for the thoughts Metroid Fan.

Hey, sup?
It looks like you soldered the cart onto the BACK of the SNES board as opposed to the front which is reversing everything and in the end, you are shorting out the cart from loading.
Also, make sure the solder is visable on BOTH sides of the board and that enough is going through (the solder is like a hill instead of being flat). I ran into this problem once, and when I resoldered everything back on making sure the wire went THRU and there was enough solder on, the game started correctly.
EDIT:::
I would take off all the wires at once and solder one at a time back on starting with one side of the cart, then doing the other half.

Sorry for the double post, but I had a reason...

There's two reasons why it seems like it's soldered onto the wrong side.
1. The A/V connections should be on the right side of the board, not the left
2. You can't see the 7805 resistor...it should be on the same side as the cart.
That probably is the reason why you don't see anything. Try it out.

I think he is right, I looked at it and it looks like you didn't take that into consideration. Check if that is the problem, the pictures are a bit too hard to see.Ness wrote:Sorry for the double post, but I had a reason...

I'm not really understanding what you mean.
I soldered the cartridge on the other side of the board because this is how it works with my design. Why would this affect anything? I think I soldered all the wires the right way...
As for solder, does it absolutely positively HAVE to touch both sides of the board? Aren't the two sides connected?
Lastly, WHAT exactly didn't I take into consideration?

Ya, you need to wire it like its coming out the top, you have it like it was supposed to come out the bottom.Turbo Tax 1.0 wrote:yes, it does affect it, now you have all of the pins reversed and will proably need to rewire the cart slot again
EDIT: no, because it isn't reversed that way, its reversed this way.
Code: Select all
<-> way its reversed
____________ cart slot

Best way I can explain is this:Kurt_ wrote:I'm not really understanding what you mean.

The board reads the pins like this ----------------->
You soldered the cart to read like this <--------------------
Everything is getting garbled and isn't being read correctly no matter which way you connect the cart.
YES, the solder MUST touch both sides of the board!!! I am POSITIVE on that!!! Solder the cart slot the correct way BUT make the wires longer so it can go to the back of the board fitting your needs.
Once you do that, that should clear up your problems...just don't rush it. I know how frustrating this can be, just go easy on it and you'll have your system up and running again.
EDIT:::
One more thing, you did NOT wire it up correctly because I see the wires are all straight. It should be something like this:
Board:
1---2---3---4---5---6---7---8
a---b---c---d---e---f---g---h
Cart:
h---g---f---e---d---c---b---a
8---7---6---5---4---3---2---1
Backwards and Crossed...that's how it should be from the bottom. Seriously, save yourself the PAIN and trouble, just solder it from the top with LONGER wires.
