Genesis memory addressing (Duh!)

Post by SgtBowhack »

The ROM is mapped directly into the first 2 million words (=4 million bytes) of the Genesis' address space
That answers why games up to 4MB work... the Genesis *is* a 16-bit console *sigh* We have a 16-bit wide addressing scheme here. So I guess you don't need a mapper until you break 4MB, which I think only Super Street Fighter II did (even my 10-in-1 cart is only 4MB it appears... unless my info is incorrect about it). Anyway, yeah, so, I'm now convinced memory addressing will not be an issue with the Radica :)

We still need a Mega Key/Nitro adapter to test if the region thing will fix Sonic 3.

Would a game genie fix that? It makes my USA and JAP carts work on a european Megadrive?

I am not sure, actually. It might do something with the region coding but as far as I know, no one is 100% sure what it does.
