Composite vs. RGB (with PICTURES) Pictures now links.

Post by Kurt_ »

- Well personally I don't notice a difference.
- My camera isn't too great with motion either, but I got the best I could.
- This is a direct comparison between the RGB and COMPOSITE.
(I don't think the RGB photo's turned out so great. I'll try to get better ones.)
(Perhaps this should be stickied somewhere just for reference? Just a thought...)

I did this experiment with an SNES a while back. I noticed a *small* difference, but definitely not a difference worth the effort. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so!

Well, its a SNES...lol...anyway, theres a tad more detail in the RGB, but not enough to really be noticable or worth it. On an Xbox or Gamecube, there will be a huge difference and RGB is recomended, but for anything older than a SNES, you dont need it

EDIT: Damn, CTFan beat me

the colors are a bit sharper, and more vibrant, but I don't see much difference beyond that.

If you would shrink them maybe I could see them both at the same time but the thing I notice upon sight is the bush on the bottom left is a completly different green then the top one but that may be angle...

On the composite image the red doesn't fill in as well. (See the I in "MARIO")

It fills in better with RGB, which is nearly pixel-perfect.
(better colors, sharper picture, more detail...)

I favor RGB, and if anyone can figure out how to get RGB out of a PSone and
nto an Intec screenpad (think Hip Gear) I want to know how. :P

Besides with composite you get the infamous red-bleed and dot-crawl...

Ok now I can clearly see that rgb is the winner! Sharper much better colors.

Yeah I need better LED's.

Any suggestions? I saw a post in a topic (i think by usbcd26 or something) with a link to some great LEDs.

I'd also like to see the LED's turned on inside a screen if possible. And links to get them.

i would also like to point out that the composite picture was taken at an angle, and we all know that lcd screens look washed out (or dark) when you look at them at angles.

Yeah, I'm sitting here looking at my SNESp wired in composite and comparing it to the pic, it's clear to see that Composite is at an angle in that picture, becuase I can't see any difference now, with the exception of a tad bit richer color. Again, RGB pays off for 3D.

As for LEDs, a lot of people have mentioned super-bright, frosted LEDs. Supposedly, the frosted-ness distributes the light better than a normal LED so you don't get that "blotch" of light in the corner. And the super-bright part.....well, self-explanatory  .

This is the topic I was trying to find:

http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=75844#75844

and these would be the LED's:
usbcd36 wrote:Ok, the LEDs came from a post in the "Wow, the PSone LED mod SUCKS" topic.

thought i put the link for the led's in my last post... here it is:
http://www.ledautomotive.com/OrderInfo/ ... htInfo.asp
btw, you can order a psone screen from ebgames.com it's about $29 plus shipping (1 day overnight is $10, so looking at $40 in all on that)
BTW, the viewing angle on these is 30 degrees as well

They are good, but pricey, the 6 I bought were about $10 + S/H. They seem to be based in North or South Carolina. If you live in the UK, go for www.ultraleds.co.uk. They have 10,000mcd ones for less than these, plus they have the same viewing angle!

Another advantage to the LED mod is that it makes the screen viewable by a camera, something that was a problem with the original cathode tube.
LED's in screen

The lights are off in that picture...are they still significantly better than the ones I have?

Could you remove your massive pictures to make this accessable to those poor souls with dial up now that there are smaller ones?
