The Nintendo Code: Wii's Final Secret
What better way to spend a beautiful Wisconsin day than sitting around reading forums? Well, I rode bike for awhile, so I guess I'm OK.
ANYWAY I guess the big thing now is the "Final Secret of Wii" which sounds like a Don Bluth film. Still, the rumors are interesting...
Does it project images into 3D space in front of your TV? Does it eyeToy your living room onto the screen and let you do stuff?
Now everyone here knows I am pretty anti-Nintendo, but if they do pull off some amazing feat with this "Final Secret" and it blows people away, who knows? I guess it's being revealed at E3, like this Tuesday.
Speculate away! Now, remember, keep it to "What the Secret Is" not "Which Consoles rULz the Best lol OMB nOOb"

Yeah, a name change would be nice.
I doubt they're going to come out with any amazing first party games. Not to piss off fanboys, but check the past. Every system since the SNES has had these types of games:
- Legend of Zelda "run around adventuring" games
- "Mario saves the princess" games
- "Mario racing" game
- Metroid "run-around-and-shoot-stuff" games
Their games are awfully repetitive, adding little to the gameplay of the previous games besides fancier graphics and maybe a plot twist. Name several games that were actually 100% innovative for the SNES, N64, or gamecube.
It's not just Nintendo, either. Most sports games now have minimal changes between them; aside from team changes and updated textures, I see no difference between Madden 2004 and 2005.
And people wonder how I have any fun playing "old" games. You kids can have your fancy new Wii or 360 or whatever, I don't have any interest in getting any of the new systems. I think it's more fun to play Crash Team Racing or Sonic the Hedgehog 2 than it is to spend 10 times as much on new hardware.
One of my classmates is spoiled out the bum, and he's already got a 360 and most of the games for it, and a bunch of other new systems with a big library of games. (Mostly because when he was younger his mother bought him stuff to pacify him, and that trend still follows to this day.) He can't understand how anyone could have any fun with "old" video games. ("Old" referring to anything older than Xbox/PS2/GCN, including Dreamcast.) I never had anything fancy when I was little; I played freeware games on the Mac IIci. We had a 2600, but it didn't get too much use until I had built up a library of games for it from yard sales and thrift stores. It wasn't until '97 when we bought the Playstation that I started playing video games, but I mostly used the Mac software.
Long story short, I don't care for any of the new systems. They're just over-hyped upgrades to current games. Older games are more fun anyways! *hugs Genesis* *hugs NES* *hugs PSX* *goes to garage* *hugs 2600*

If they do have something extra up their sleeve, I doubt it's a connection to a DS. A connection to a DS sounds like it'll exist (like GBA to a GC) but not as the uber 1337 whatever the whatever they have in store for us. Think about it, DS connection does seem a no brainer. First the Wii will let you aim the controllers at the screen. Okay, so what. Well, You can to this fast "aiming" on a DS too, it's called the touch screen. Anywho, for what they have in store for us, I dunno. Personally my speculation is that the Wii will be the system released with the most titles right off the bat.

My guess is that it has to do with the online because the name is supposed to symbolize, playing together/a gaming community and since the system is named after that, then its got to be a biggie. Maybe you'll be able to play old classics online, and/or something that competes with Xbox Live but for free. But i really think that it has something to do with the way you see games because of all the mysterious qoutes. Well wake me up when we're at E3. (http://revolution.ign.com/articles/705/705415p1.html , check it outs its good)

I bet their final secret is some weird controller that looks like a remote and you can wave it around to do stuff. That would be sweet.
My excitement about new systems basically ended after I got a PS1 (in like 2002). After that there was way too much emphasis on graphics. The old style SNES RPGs are defintely where it's at.
I agree with you about the new systems...it seems game quality goes down as graphics go up. I don't agree with the "no innovations since SNES" statement though. Even if you don't like Ocarina of Time, you at least have to respect it for the amazing leap in gameplay that it provided, and the control innovations that have been duplicated... but never improved upon.bicostp wrote: I doubt they're going to come out with any amazing first party games. What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

I smell a gimmick, and I will be very disappointed with Nintendo if it is.
I'm pretty sure the talk about 3D projections is nonsense. You would either need a pair of glasses- the perfect accessory to go missing- or a large and impractical TV-mounted device. The technology exists for goggle-less 3D projections, but it requires a specially engineered LCD screen made specifically for that purpose (you can find some laptops featuring them).

I don't know if even Nintendo's designers can take down the might of Square-Enix. They have so many big guns they can pull out whenever they want; Chrono Break, FF XIV (didn't see THAT coming), a FFVI/VII remake (rumored), or hell; they may even decide to make a GOOD 3D Seiken Densetsu game. Whereas Nintendo has Link, Mario, and the occasional Samus. And no, Star Fox doesn't count.Lucretius wrote:Name change?![]()
I hope it's the promise of a bunch of great games. That they have some super-power writer/designer up their sleves are are just waiting to unleash him. Creating a slew of games that neither company could beat; even EA games would crumble.
Past that, I doubt it really matters...
Anyways, as far as "Wii's secret", I hope it's something that'll make the player more interactive with the game than ever before, while not screwing itself *cough* power glove *cough*. And where did you see the "Secret of Wii" (hey, I smell a new RPG!)? Is it announced that Nintendo has something planned, or are you just assuming they'd say something like this to take away attention from the other competitors?

Wait... you don't know about the whole controller thing!? It's a gyro mouse. Only different. That's all. No camera. No 3d goggles. It's a remote... and you wave it around as a sword... or aim it as a gun.
The technology isn't new.

If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.
