n64 questions

n64 questions

ok i dont understand anything that has to do with the dc-dc converter so to power an n64 could i have 3 1.2v batteries =3.6v for the cpu and add a separate 7.2 volts for the rest of the system? :?:
could i just use a few resistors to get 3.3 volts? fron the 7.2

Er, no you can't use resistors as a power supply, they're too unreliable. Use a DC/DC converter. Here's a diagram from Sky's site:

You can get the DC/DC converter free from TI, don't overuse it this though. Check his site for more details, since it explains this pretty well. Go to diagrams, then scroll to the bottom.

EDIT: You can have another 3 volt battery, but why bother when you can use the free samples from TI?

Sure, you could do that. It's a bit redundant and space wasting, but you can do that. Make sure it has exactly 3.3V.

Joe, no batteries come in 3.3v, so the closest is 3v... So the answer is probably no.

im goona atleast try!... is 3.6 really too much? :? how about 3.6 and a resistor? that DC-DC stuff is too technical........ :oops: ....i suck at anything harder than a regulator

Still, no... the battery can become overcharged and undercharged, you'd need a voltage regulator. (Once again, check my site's diagrams...)

dude, i have personally used 3 AAs to power the 3.3v line with no problems aside form poor battery life BE WARNED overvolting by more than 3.6v will likely KILL your n64

its not that i can't follow the diagrams its that i dont want to go through the hassle of finding every thing i need and put it together :x

Ah, I see. All it is, is a free sample from Texas Instruments, a 100uF, and a 2k resistor.
