A few basic questions from a potential portable N64 maker

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

I'm just going to keep my battery pack, now that I found out I could charge it with 12v.
Do the N64 and unmodded screen use more than 2 amps? I hooked them both up to a 7.5v 2 amp power adapter w/ sm64 in and the sm64 logo would appear and then mario's face, and then it would reset and happen again. This didn't happen though when I uplugged the backlight.

It would have no effect on the LEDs :?
It does actually affect the brightness/tint of the video signal. I don't know why it was designed to do this (only CCFL adjusting was needed in the orignal application.)
