Yeah, Sonic, if you could find the pinout for the ROM slot it'd be cool! I'll give you co-credit when I do the "Sega Exodus Making of Story"

Plus it'll save me time so I can finish PW!

Ben, that would be very cool =) thing is, I can give you every pinout except for the eproxy lines (the main Genny CPU) because there aren't any pins =/ But if you mean everything else, I can do that no problem =) I'll see if I can get it done tonight. Hopefully with that information and the datasheets of the ICs I posted, you'll be able to decipher what lines are what exactly. I can just tell you where they go.

Okay, I traced everything. this may not be 100%, but it should be pretty damn close if it's not. I checked everything several times though, so hopefully it's right. I traced the lines from the LS32 and HC174 chips, because that was much easier. I may make a schematic to make things more easily viewable. LS Top means the LS32 chip that's horizontal above the HC174. LS Right means the other LS32 Chip to the right of the HC174 chip. Pin # means directly to the ROMs Pin # and CPU means it goes to the main eproxy chip. Here's the pinout for the HC174:

1-CPU
2-Pin 1 of LS Right
3-Pin 11 (ROM) and CPU
4-Pin 10
5-Pin 4 of LS Top
6-Pin 9
7-Pin 11 of LS Top
8-Ground
9-Pin 12 of LS Top
10-CPU
11-Pin 8
12-Pin 8 of LS Top
13-Pin 7
14-Pin 6
15-Pin 4 of LS Left
16-VCC

Heres the LS32 (Top) Pinout:
1-Pin 2 of HC174
2-CPU
3-Pin 35
4-Pin 5 of HC174
5-CPU
6-Pin 34
7-Pin 13 (ROM) and Pin 7 of LS Right
8-Pin 2
9-Pin 7 of HC174
10-CPU
11-Pin 3
12-Pin 9 of HC174
13-CPU
14-Pin 14 of LS Right and CPU

Here's the LS32 (Right) pinout:
1-Pin 11 of HC174
2-CPU
3-Pin 43
4-Pin 15 of HC174
5-CPU
6-Pin 44
7-Pin 13 (ROM) and Pin 7 of LS Top
8-13-N.C.
14-Pin 14 of LS Top and CPU (and pf Capacitor to ground)

That means I got these pins of the main ROM:
1-N.C.
2-Pin 11 of LS32 Top
3-Pin 8 of LS32 Top
4-CPU
5-CPU
6-Pin 14 of HC174 and CPU
7-Pin 13 of HC174 and CPU
8-Pin 11 of HC174 and CPU
9-Pin 6 of HC174 and CPU
10-Pin 4 of HC174 and CPU
11-CPU and Pin 3 of HC174
12-CPU
13-Pin 7 of both LS32's
14-22-CPU

23-VCC
24-31-CPU
32-Ground
33-VCC
34-Pin 6 of LS32 Top
35-Pin 7 of LS32 Top
36-42-CPU
43-Pin 3 of LS32 Right
44-Pin 6 of LS32 Right

And there ya go! That's the very best I can do folks, beyond that it's out of my hands. Hopefully this will help out Ben and the other software people =)

Too... much... technical... information...
I think I'll wait for some step by step instructions on how to wire the port on.

yeah well this technical information is to help make a cart pinout.

The reason why I suspect Pin 13 of the ROM to be ground is because is's connected to both LS32's on pin 7 which is Ground for the chip based on the Datasheet from my previous link.

Pin 14 of both LS32's are connected and that's probably VCC based on the datasheet.

The question is, why would it need ORs and flip-flops? If we could come up with a good reason for that, we'd be much closer to finding the pinout.

And what's more puzzling for me is- why weren't they just integrated into the GOAC?

Alright I got my 64 pin cartridge connector from Digi-Key today. It took a little shaving and sanding but it fits into the cartridge just fine.

Now... how to wire it to the board...? To get ready I started attaching wires to the ROM spots so I could connect them to the slot once I knew the pinouts.

SegaSonic, is there any way to correlate the pinouts you've found to the original Genesis cartridge pinouts? Maybe figuring out which are address or data for starters?

I don't want to start soldering connections until I have a REASONABLE idea...

Sorry Ben, but I don't know anything about software. Using the pinouts I gave you maybe you can figure out where the data or address lines are based on the chips themselves. However, I have absolutely no way of making a pinout for the ROM based on the Genesis pinout. If I could do that I would have done it a long time ago...

Hey Ben, if you've got some breadboard, it might be good to use for this...
No soldering = good for tests. Might wanna also occasionally check and make sure you're not doing anything bad to the cart by plugging it into the Genesis again too every once in awhile.
