ok ok.

But if Mac was the dominant system, don't you think it'd have more viruses? (For the reasons stated above but opposite)

Make it stop! How long will this go on...

I use a Mac, and I think that macs have their advantages, including security, great graphic design programs, not freezing too often, etc. However, PC's also have their areas of expertise, i.e. compatibility, programming, GAMING, etc. Hell, I bought a PC just for gaming. It's just ridiculous to fight over them.

Now, back to the question:

Coldstone for 3D RPG's.
The Green Machine X for 2D side-scrollers.

What a great 100th post, huh.

Windows eats Apple for a delicious snack.

FreeBSD looks out Windows.

Linux is puzzled what to do with FreeBSD, so Linux chainsaws it.

I don't know about game programming specificly, but I can tell you that in the *nix world there are more programming utilties then Windows could ever offer. If you know how to program in the first place you should be able to write a game, only downside is that you'll be working from the ground up.

As for the debate of Mac OS over Windows. Classic OS vs. 9x(and ME) OS wins. Simply because it crashed less and had far superior power in both graphics and responce speed. OS X vs. NT based OS X wins, as it has better security and protected memory (means no BSOD or reboots).

Just have to add my $0.02 here, because I can't stand people uneducated on the subject mindlessly bashing a platform. Those of you bashing Macs, have you ever used one for more than two seconds? Do me a favor, before you complain about how something sucks, gain some experience so you can have a legitimate reason before complaining about it.
Personally, I prefer Macs. I have to use both Macs and PCs daily, and have for many years. During that time I've had problems with both platforms. From my experience, these happen a lot more on Windows and to a higher degree of severity. The interface is a lot less user friendly, and things that are intuitive on a Mac can take a lot longer on a PC.
See, based on my own observations and experiences, I feel Macs are better. If you're going to keep posting your uneducated trash on these boards, you'll lose all my respect, and also based on past experiences, I feel many other members will agree with that.

Calm down.

I use both Macs (at school) and PCs (at home).

Macs:

Pros:
Not too many viruses
Apple handles them (in support) very well [unlike iPods...]
Awesome looking layout
Good for graphics desgining
Handles physcial memory well
Good sercurity

Cons:
Horrible gaming
Not available for open source development (or atleast, too much...)
Few programs
Non-upgradable in; hardware
and software
Small amount of customization
Isolated from many PC based products
Not as supported as Windows/MS
Hard to use mouse!
You can get up to 2.0GHz Dual Processor/2.2GHz Single Proccessor Image

Windows [XP]/PC

Pros:
Upgradable in; hardware
and software
Ability to dual boot OS's easily
Ability to overclock
Good UI
Very customizable in look
Great gaming possibilities
Tons of programs
Easy to develop for software
and hardware
Doesn't take up an unbearable amount of space on HDDs
Easy to administer
Easy to link together/lan
More saftey [in SP2]
Easier internet
Good file extensions
Easy interface/accessability
Good customer support
We can get up to 3.4GHz Dual Processor/3.8GHz Single Proccessor :P

Cons:
Internet Explorer sucks
More viruses
Handles physical memory and processor worse than mac.

So there.

I pick Windows over Mac any day.

Now you can't parade around saying I haven't my thoughts straight.

And it's our opinions, BASED on facts.

So do ME a favor; if you're going to lose respect for anyone, get their side of the story first.

Actually, you would be surprised at how much software Mac has: more than most people think. It is very lacking in the games department, but as for other software, there is no shortage!

What's wrong with the mouses? (mice?)

As for Internet Explorer sucking: you're not alone. Safari makes me tear m hair out sometimes. Something Apple definitely needs to work on. I guess that's what Firefox is there for.

At least this topic's calmed down a bit...

Don't tell me you believe the Megahertz Myth! :)

The PowerPC architecture (G5, G4, G3, 604e, 604, 603e, 603, 601) only requires 7 clock cycles to perform one operation. The x86 systems (Pentium *, Celeron...) require roughly 3 times that number, so they actually have to have a higher clock speed to perform the same operations. Besides, unless I am misstaken, AMD Athlon 64 processors run the same clock speeds as G5s do, and everyone says they're lightning fast... So a 2.0 ghz G5 is the rough equivelant of a 3.6 or 4.0 ghz Pentium 4. (maybe more)
Internet Explorer sucks
No arguments here! 8)

EDIT: Oh yeah, OSX takes up some space, but with Service Pack 2 and all current updates, Windows XP takes up about 4 and a half GIGABYTES of space!

Some of what you say I agree with, other stuff I find completely off-base.

There's plenty of Open-Source dev for Mac, just go to sourceforge and look around. Just about anything written in C or Java or Python or a bunch of other languages can be cross-compiled with the change of a few libraries, a lot of the code is the same. Stuff like Opeg-GL is fully supported, meaning it works just as well. If you think about it, a lot of Open Source apps are where Linux and Unix, OS X is based on Unix, so it's really easy to get them to compile on a Mac.
Few programs
Non-upgradable in; hardware

As joevennix said, as long as you're not talking games, there's plenty of good software out for the Mac.
Small amount of customization
Isolated from many PC based products
Not as supported as Windows/MS
Hard to use mouse!
Well if you're stuck using a school computer with an Apple Mouse, I agree; however, if you own the Mac, nothing is stopping you from buying a 3-button scroll wheel mouse, plugging it right in, and having everything work perfectly.
You can get up to 2.0GHz Dual Processor/2.2GHz Single Proccessor Image
Excuse me? Try two dual-core 2.5 GHz processors.
Windows [XP]/PC

Pros:
Upgradable in; hardware
and software
Ability to dual boot OS's easily
Ability to overclock
Good UI
This is more a matter of opinion, personally, I think OS X's UI is better.
Very customizable in look
Great gaming possibilities
Tons of programs
Easy to develop for software
and hardware
Like I said, the same can be said about Macs
Doesn't take up an unbearable amount of space on HDDs
I don't remember exactly how much space each OS takes up on a HD, but I know they're both fairly large, and probably more or less equal.
Easy to administer
Easy to link together/lan
Just as easy on a Mac, even if you're linking Macs with PCs
More saftey [in SP2]
More safety than earlier versions of Windows, but not safer than a Mac.
Easier internet
Good file extensions
I'm not sure what these two are. It's just as easy to get a Mac on the internet, and both platforms use a lot of the same file extensions, so this is null in my opinion.
Easy interface/accessability
This is the same as your UI comment, just a matter of opinion.
Good customer support
We can get up to 3.4GHz Dual Processor/3.8GHz Single Proccessor :P

Cons:
Internet Explorer sucks

Well, while I still don't agree with everything you have to say, I will offer my apologies, but my earlier post was aimed primarily at Kurt_, who was saying much more derogatory things about Macs.
