I was born in 1990 but my parents had a strict "no-consoles" rule up until 2003 or there abouts so my earliest vg's were all computer based, the first being vector graphics DOS games, most of which I still don't know the names of . Other than that I've had a number of those 62-zillion-in-one black and white hand helds (I still can't believe I could never figure out how to play tetris ).

My first system was the Atari 2600, so I am ancient compared to most of you guys. I agree that kids these days are kind of ignorant of gaming's beginnings. I can remember playing my NES for hours when I first got it in 1987. I was 8 years old, and it was Christmas. My dad didn't have a job at the time, but still managed to get me one somehow. After I opened it, we played Mario and Duck Hunt for hours. I got a SNES, N64, PSX, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and Xbox 360 all at launch, so I know my roots.
Life is a lot like a video game without the extra lives and continues.

my first system was the Atari 5200. My cousins had a 2600 and an intellivision. Played the mess out of that 5200. My sister always wanted to play missile command and my Dad schooled me in Atari football. My sister and I combined our allowances and bought a NES in 87 (the ROB version, cuz it was the only one we could find). Ahh, good times....

I got the SNES, N64, PS1, and GC exactly a year after their respective launches. Penny-pinching! The only system I bought at launch was the Dreamcast. Got the PS2 8 months after launch (NCAA football!). Have yet to get anything X-Box and may never get it....

My first system was a Playstation. My neighbor had an N64 and we'd argue all the time about which one was better.

I've never been in a situation where some ignorant little kid doesn't know what an older system is, but when my parents have parties, all the snot-nosed brats flock into my room because I have the video games. When thay saw me playing NES they said "That system sucks; it's graphics are crap." and worse, they asked where the violence was. :|

WHAT!, the youth of today belive that Violence makes a game fun, this is why a lot of truely good games get masked by Hyper violent games that are no good.

My first system was a hand me down NES, then went to Genesis, and SNES, N64, Playstation, XBOX, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS2, and Lastly 360.

I'm not ashamed to admit this:

When I was little (sometime in '97, I was 3) we weren't the richest family in existence, so my first game system was an Atari 2600 my parents got at a yard sale for 10$... I later moved on to the other classics, owning in a few short years every system (year-wise) from the NES to an N64 in 2000... So when some kid tries to tell me, "Dude, the PS2 is the 1337357 system ever, those old ones suck on an unimagined level... Why do you waste your time with those old pieces of crap? They're like, from '80-something..." And I just tell them that those systems gave me a life, and if they could show me more than 20 games with decent gameplay. Usually they argue that the graphics of old skool systems suck because they only have 2-D gameplay.... Pshh, at least they're entertaining...

Well, me first GB was the GBO. My first personally purchased console was the Genesis. Currently, I possess every nintendo home console since the NES days. One time, we had a halloween party at my house and some little kid (who was my little brother's friend, I think) asked me what *That* was, refering to the NES. I told him it plays games, and he said "It doesn't look like a playstation...". I really wanted to kill that kid. Nowadays, it's all about power. I say "That's nice, but how come if the ~ 333MhZ Ps2 can get that kind of graphics power, why aren't my ~3 ghz PC games 10 times better?". I've found out the answer to that, finally. It's because developers think that my gfx card wouldn't be able to handle it since it isn't dedicated to Gaming. Well, that's a sad explanation, as the least you could do would be to optimize some games. At least they're getting to a point where almost everyone will realize that every good console game was originally for a PC.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Ok, first I'd like to say that I feel old because I'm now 18, and there are some people here atleast four years my junior.

Alright, now for games. My brothers and I bought an NES from Funcoland in probably 1992 or 1993, and we played the crap out of it. That died about six years later, and we promptly bought a replacement one, which we still have (somewhere). Shortly after getting the NES, we got a Genesis. We played the crap out of that, and it died around 1997-1998. Our gramdparents bought an N64 for us grandchildren in 1999, and they still have that, which we all still play. About three years ago my little brothers bought an SNES from a friend, which we still own. In probably 1998-1999 I bought an Atari 2600 4-switch, an Atari 7800, two of each system's controllers, and about 18 2600 games at a rummage sale for $2.00 :D . I played with the 7800 because it worked right, and put them away and played with them periodically. Afterfinding this site, I correctly identified the 7800, and ripped apart the 2600 to make portable. My brother's got a PS2 from a friend in 2004, but that broke almost immediately, so it's sitting in my room. Then, one of my brothers bought a GameCube early last year, but that died early this year, so he bought a new one and gave me the old one, which will eventually be made into a portable :D . And in the summer of last year, I bought my own N64, which will be made portable eventually. Oh, and I have a GBP and GBC.

Total system count: 10

Some people at my school question why I'm making a 2600p. The reason is simple: the games had such "horrible" graphics, that they had to have great gameplay to make them worth buying. That's what's missing in today's games.
P.S.: Sorry for the long post.
