What to cram a 8"x5.75" computer motherboard into?

Post by tom61 »

Since the motherboard I was using earlier in my PCp project is no longer going to be used in that project, I figured I should turn it into its own system.

Socket 370 Motherboard with Celeron 733 8"L x 7.75"H x ~2"Tall
Standard 3.5" 10GB harddrive
Mini-AT power supply (if I can find it) 2" x 2" x 4" (I think)
Maybe a slot load slim-line CDrom

Ideas of what I should cram it into?

The only thing I could find around my room was an old Nintendo, but a Nintendo PC has so been done before. :P

Pretty much I'm open to anything that can cheaply be found at Big Lots, K-Mart, or Wal-Mart.

Put it into an old CRT, or a printer. How about a book?
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Put it in your bed.

I'm not kidding :).

Have a monitor/PSOne screen be on the head stopper of the bed (the thing at your head) and have a keyboard pull out from the crack in the matress.

I've dreamed about it!

If I put it in a CRT, I'd have to put an LCD up front, and I don't want to spend much money on it. I just can't leave well enough alone. I've seen a couple of printer mods, none turned out very good. I don't have any book I'd want to cut up.

That's tempting. I've not seen a PC in an evelope before, much less one addressed to SpongeBuell. I think that'd actually would be neat!

Of course, I have no intention of sending it to you, but addressed to you I could do. :P

My newest one is small enough to fit in a wiskey bottle, but this one is too big. If I drank, I'd be tempted to pick up a pony keg and put it in that.

Can't. My apartment came furnished, and I'm not allowed to mod any of it. :(

Looking through Mini-ITX.com before heading out, I came across a couple of Lego cases. I think I'll make a case out of them for this project. I still have a bunch (a few thousand) from when I was younger. If I don't have enough peices, Wal-Mart has a 800 peice mostly plain old bricks pack for $20.

To make mine different from the Lego cases on there, I'm going to have wheels on it, that also drive a Lego radar dish in circles. I'm also going to see how well I can intergrate the slot-load drive into the case.

Dang apartment. How about a Pacman model? You should create one and throw it in there and get creative!
