How much money should I spend?
Here's my predicament.
(All money is Canadian)
Currently I have spent $135 on my project.
Interact PS1 screen (broken) with PS1: $55
Verge PS2 screen: $45
SNES v3 (broken): $35
And I'm planning on spending about $60 on a SNES.
The problem is, the batteries I want (that are 6550mah and will save so much space) with a protection circuit and a charger (with shipping included) is roughly $105.
Should I spend a total of $300 on a SNESp? Or should I go with some cheaper, bulkier, not-as-good batteries?
(For those interested: Two of these, two of these, and one of these
(I should mention that I DO have plenty of money, but I don't want to spend unneccesary money that I don't have to)

Ok, I'm not going to give you my normal "Li-Ions Are Bad" speech, but are you sure you want to risk using Li-Ion/Poly batteries? For $16, you can get 6 of these rechargeable AAs (http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/i ... _MAH_.html)
and you'll be set with 2300mAh. You can even wire two sets of these in parallel to get 4600mAh. And you won't have your batteries degrading in 2 years like Li-Ion (provided you have a charger that can handle it.)
My guess is, once you manage to build your SNESp, you'll see lots of ways you can improve it. Then you'll build another system, and I suggest you save your Li-Ions for that.
It's your call, but if I were you I'd just go the proven Ni-MH route.

But you don't have an older brother who will yell at you when you do something wrong. Note that I was getting a special Li-Ion charger and a protection circuit so that they DON'T blow up in my face. Another alternative that I would enjoy is the 3.7V Li-Ion batteries that include a protection circuit. They're much cheaper, but I'm afraid that the width of them is too much. I won't know though, until I get my mini SNES and see everything together.
Can anybody point me towards a Canadian store? Shipping from America plus all the duties and such is killer.
EDIT: heh...http://www.canadianbattery.com/

to solar car uses lithium batteries (imagine this: 25kg of li poly batteries. thats 55 pounds).
if i dont know something, someone else on the team does. as long as kurt ASKS for help...
anyhow, kurt, you should stop wasting money. and yeah.. go with nimhs if only becauase of cost. just pretend its your penalty for breaking a system and a screen.

Ben uses Sony Infolithium L batterys. They get around 1800 mAh at 7.2 V but you can also convert them down to 3V or w/e a SNES uses. The good thing about these batterys is they are really small, about the size of 2 AAs. Plus if you get an external charger you can buy a new battery if you want and keep a spare battery around for double the play time.
1 InfoLithium L and a charger can cost around $80 CAD and a single battery costs around $48 CAD.
