Gosh darn Hammer Bros.

Post by minkster »

I got back in the super mario brothers mood for the SNES...and I've been playing it a lot. I can easily get to world 8 with no problem...but I still have yet to beat this game without cheating. I can't beat those dudes who throw hammers at you in level 8-3...the only way I beat it is if I'm fireball mario. And then in the last level 8-4 I can't get past that last hammer dude right before you get to fight bowser to win the game! Ah its pissing me off. Does anyone have a strategy because I think I'm becoming slightly retarted if I don't beat this game soon :D

Fire Mario - Fireballs

Big Mario - wait until they stop throwing and they jump. Jump over them as they're going back down.

Little Mario - If you time it right you might be able to run under them as they're jumping. (works for me.) This might work with Big Mario, too.

I can clear world 4-1 pretty easily on the NES, thanks to a bug that lets Mario jump over the tall pirhana pipes easily, no matter what. Unfortunately they squashed this bug in every other version Ive played (SNES port, SMB Deluxe on the GBC, not sure about the Classic NES GBA version)

What warp zones do you use? here's my path:

1-1, 1-2, 4-1, 4-2, 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-4.

I learned the SMB Hammer Bros Song on the keyboard. Woot!

I hate the hammer bros. How do they get all those hammers?

this is funny because my cousin came over and was playing super mario bros for nes. He beat it in about 15 minutes. He just jumps underneath and then jumps to hit them from below. It worked well for him, but he is crazy fast.

If I loose fire mario during any of the world 8 stages I just reset and try again. And I to use the 1-1, 1-2, 4-1, 4-2, 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-4 path.

If you use bicostp's warp zones (the same ones I use :) ) you should always be fire mario.
My advice is to keep yourself as fire mario as much as possible and use his fireballs. If you are not fire mario,
get close to them so you can barely see what levels they are on, and then just run like crazy on the level they are not on.
Here's a link to world maps if you need them:

I basically use the first warpzone and the second warpzone...I've never found the 3rd one...but it doesn't matter because I have those levels literally memorized. Thanks for the tips though...I'll try to beat it now :)

Yeah, even with warps, I've only been able to do it in 12 minutes...I'm doing the best I can to break ten, but haven't...
Warranty-Voiding fun!
