Double Post! Woot!

Is it possible to buff off the glare coating?
And is it possible to get a glare coating that I could put on?

If not i'll just leave it.

it might be possible to buff it off, but I would be very careful about this. when working on my portable I wanted to take the paint off of the plastic screen protector on my GBO. One of the ways I tried was buffing, which really did take the paint off quickly, but it was really easy to start buffing off the plastic as well. Luckily, I tried this in a fairly inconspicuous spot that ended up being painted over in the end.

One problem though:

Wouldn't buffing the screen make it extra shiny?
Is there a way to get rid of the shine?
(Put crap on it

well, it should probably be noted that I'm not a very patient person at times and my method of buffing included using a buffing attachment on my dremel. At high speeds even a nice soft pad will eat through plastic quite quickly.

if this "crap" is just on the screen cover why the hell does it matter just dont use the screen's case maybe you could give us a pic because i personally have no idea what you are talking about, is it on the actual screen or just the plastic covering it. please explain
did you even take the screen out of the case yet

and like i said maybe you got it UNDER the lcd when you were fiddling with it

i think i know what it is
i had it on my intec screen pad
when u wet it it goes away for like a minute and then comes back
i think it was from the super glue i used
i couldnt get it off so i just tossed that protector thinkg

that would make sense if it was super glue, real super glue will melt plastic a little bit (helps the plastic bond) but it will etch away the plastic a bit, and getting it wet will fill in the scratches, makeing them disappear for a couple of minutes.

It's not superglue.
It's something that was on the screen before I even took it out of the case.

Here's what the acetone did to it:

(sorry for the light, but it's almost exactly like finger smudges, only nothing gets it off.)

EDIT: It's actually over the entire screen and relatively bad, but it's hard to see (without a light it jsut looks like an LCD on webcam, I really need a digit camera.)

Detailed (enough) instructions for removing the anti-glare from LCD screens. I tried it on a scratched up PSone screen a couple weeks ago and it worked great. After you have it off just wipe the screen down with isopropyl, but remember that it will scratch very easily. I would have posted this sooner, but the site (diyaudio) was down

. Providing that it is just the antiglare coating that's messed up, then removing it should make it look a whole lot better. Just remember if you take it off it will be very reflective, like the back of the LCD panel is. If you compare with the antiglare sheet, you may be able to find a similar material to replace it with. Really thin, clear styrene might work if you buff it to a very slight haze.

THanks for the help superdeformed, but that's not exactly the same. On my screen it's a coating, I believe. Anyways i'll try buffing it off from the corner once I get my grandpa's dremel.

Well the buffer is doing SOMETHING. Very slowly, but at least something's coming off. Although I DID accidentally melt some spots in the corners. Oh well, it's the corner.

I can buff off the crap, that's done.

But now I'm left with lots of ordinary scratches.

Anybody know a good scratch remover for plastic?

(Yes, I've determined it's plastic)

lol. kurt. therse no magical chemical that just attacks scratches.

you COULD try to give it a nice even coate of semi-gloss urethane, if that even sticks to plastic... but theres no way to remove scratches without making more scratches. you gotta put down a smooth layer on top.

Timmeh, you might be wrong... There is the liquid stuff to repair your glasses. I forget the exact name, i think it was Crystal Clear Scracth Remover, and another product is Liquid Lense. There is this crap for the iPOD called iCleaner, its supposed to remove the scratches in the screen and plastic. All of these products are non abrasive. They are a form of liquid thats brushed on and it fills in all the tiny scratches with product. I cant tell you for sure which one to use, but you get the general idea of what to look for now. Any of them should work...

Acetone is volitole stuff, keep it away from all plastics. Something you dont understand about buffing... Its abrasive. It puts billions of little scratches into your finish. The thing is, they are all going in the same direction, and they are REALLY small and packed together, so it becomes pollished or semi-reflective. On an LCD it will have a lot of glare or appear foggy. I wouldnt suggest buffing it.

I posted a while ago a cheap way of protecting your screen, look into it.

I want to try a few different forms of Anti-Glare and Privacy filters for my screens and see if i can keep people on the bus and trains from staring at what i am doing. I also want to figure out a way to make my screens Daylight Readable...
