If this was said a few years ago, I'd probably agree with you. Now I use OS X. This is a beautiful operating system, it's like a work of art. I use it when I want to use a computer, but don't want to think :P

Trust me, use OS 10.4 for a week, you'll love it.

I love Workbench 1.3. I have it on my Amiga A1000 with a whole Meg of ram, hooked to my Commodore 1702 monitor.

Before we have real flames start, Mac is fine and lets leave it at that. I dont think many of you that are saying Macs suck have had much contact with them to begin with.

BloodNess.... How can I put this politely... Get a blog.

And for you Amiga lovers, ever check out DragonflyBSD?

I <3 Mac OS :P

Get a Mac Mini after they switch over to an Intel processor. If you don't like OS X, then just go and install Linux on it or something. (But seriously run OSX. It's basically Unix, and if you install the X11 window manager on it you can run a surprising number of Unix/Linux apps like The GiMP)

the reason i dont like macs is a financial and spec standpoint. I dont wanna pay 500 for a slow ass processor and 256 megs o' ram. My $360 can do better. Also, mac os seems to be lacking in certain characteristics, like THERES NO FREAKING PAINT EQUIVELENT!!! whenever im at my friends house, and we are making a movie, i have to switch to his laptop to change a picture to our liking, its really annoying.
back on topic. Yeah, it works, but i dont think it has as many features as the windows one. The burning wuestion is, Is there a linux version?

The reason Macs have slower clock speeds is because they run on PowerPC processors, which are completely different from Intel architecture.

Intel processors need 22 processor cycles to complete an operation. Macs need 7. So macs can complete tasks about 2 times as fast as a Pentium 4 with the same clock speed. So a new Mac runs about the same as a 3.5ghz Pentium 4.

You're comparing apples and oranges. (no pun intended.)

Besides, there are a lot more factors in determining a computer's speed than cock speed. There's bus speed, L2 processor cache, and numerous other factors.

Also bear in mind Windows XP can use up 128 MB of memory by itself, I don't think that's the case with OSX... :?

And don't they come with something like CorelDraw now or something? (and there's always freeware for programs. And MS Paint sucks. It destroys image quality if you save images as anything besides a 24-bit bitmap.)

BloodNess, if you haven't purchased your Mac Mini yet, check out Dealmac.com for the cheapest prices. Also, if you purchase it in a mac store, they will install hardware upgrades for you for free at the time of purchase. Just go to Dealram.com and buy a 1GB stick of RAM and take it with you when you go to the Mac store. Cheers!

Guys, do not talk sh*t about computers until you've made one into a portable. Only then can it be superior to other computers...

Okay, I have used Macs before, and I don't like them because every release has a couple less standard features. For example, Mac OS no longer has a plaintext editor. TextEdit or whatever they use now, is like WordPad, so it adds formatting tags. There's freeware out there, but an OS should atleast have the basic. I'm not promoting Windows, because I hate it almost as much as Mac. A lot of people talk about the speed of Mac, but it's not much different from *NIX on an x86 based processor. I took my 3-year-old laptop with linux to my friends place and compaired the speed to his brand new, top of the line Mac, and mine was just as fast as his.

Yes, GarageBand is really cool. It's also easy to use. I played around with a friend's copy and had a really terrible song made in 10 minutes.
