I didn't have much money back then, still don't have a whole heap. What I had then was soldering skills, and now I have a bit of digital design knowledge as well. Hopefully, this means that I'll be able to help with any problems that may crop up.
I'm still really interested though. Good work on the ...

I CAME BACK!
Not much to say - just that this project seems to have come a little further, and now that I've had a couple of courses in VHDL under my belt (as well as digital design), I feel a little more confident in my ability to help. At the very least, I now know who I can go to in order to get ...

This is where I do my "I told you so" dance - it's not even really a filesystem, it's just a list of "FILE_ENTRY" structs which are pointers to the files. You quoted from the post I was refering to earlier, by the way

GC boot without Disk Drive?
Is it at ALL possible for a gc to boot without the disk drive? With a comercially availible mod chip bios replacement, for example. If not, is it possible for the gc to boot with only the disk controller but not the actual laser assembly? Thanks in advance!

marshallh: I agree. I was only thinking along the lines of an MCU because I've been reading about the Propeller Chip from Parallax. It's basically an 8 core, 32 bit RISC chip clockable up to 120MHz (30 effective, 4 stage pipeline) that can detect a rising edge on every clock (120MHz). It's got 32 IO ...
