as previously stated a oem version of M$ windows xp/vista can only be installed on one computer legaly.

if i recall right m$ only store XP serials and computer details for six months but i could be wrong.

well if you buy xp and install it then you are asked to set a password during the setup process but most people buy there computers with it preinstalled and it shows a one time screen that doesn't have anything in regards to that ...
