I've resoldered the connection pin back to the board before, and trust me, its a pain in the ass. In fact, I've resoldered it back on twice on the same pcb because I thought I didn't have it soldered on right! It will take a lot of patience and skill, but it is possible.

I found something weird going on...

I found out that I would need a 11 kOhm added to the direction pin so that the total resistance would be around 16 kOhm (5 kOhms from the analog stick's pot plus 11 kOhm). That way, when the stick is moved in direction needed, it will lower the total resistance ...

What controller did you get your analog stick from? So you got it to work without using any resistors? I tried with and without resistors and it didn't work out well.
