are the chroma lines the ones next to the one I removed? .1uF is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

since a cap is technically an open circuit, I would have thought to remove it completely over shorting it. Any more ideas before I recklessly knock stuff off my board?

That sounds familiar, I think that's probably why I knocked the cap off to begin with as I did the LED mod.
