PSONe Screen Questions

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSONe Screen Questions

Post by Surfrock66 »

Ok, I did the LED mod as described in the "Hacking the PSOne screen" page and all is well, though when I put the bridge wire over the capacitor i knocked the one to the immediate right off, and was able to reconnect it (whew) When I put it all back together, I get no color from the signal (so the game appears black and white) although when I increase the volume, the little indicator bars on the screen come up correctly in green. Is it the capacitor that's causing the problem, or is it something else? If it is the cap and I need to replace it, what is it's value, does anyone know? When I got the screen, I successfully tested it and it worked in color. and finally, I'm getting no sound whatsoever, although when I plug in the external plugs and make my N64 go to the TV it's fine. Any Thoughts? Thanks!

(You glued the LED's in, right?)

Did you jump anything?

If you have a verge screen it's an easy fix. Do you have it?

What cap are you talking about?

Here's my problem:

hmmm....might be a problem with the N64. did you test video as well?

I don't think it's that little cap, but it could be...hmmm.....well, make sure it's soldered right, for one thing :P. for sound, try tracing the audio inputs on the screen to a resistor and jumping that. also, make sure there aren't any shorts or anything....

Edit: what pin on the N64 are you using? it might be one of the Luma/chroma pins, since I think at least one of those gives black and white picture (er, maybe I'm wrong, but I think it happened to me once :P...)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

if the cap you bridge for brightness is luma then maybe the one you got earlier is chroma (color). did you get all the solder off of it?

I used the V, there's L R and V and GND on the 64 so I'm using V for the video, I know it's right since I have a switch to go out to composite ports which works fine. I thought I had the cap completely cleaned off and put back on correctly, but it's almost too small to be certain, so I was wondering if anyone ever had a value for it. I need to go trace the audio but before I get to take it apart I was wondering if anyone ever had the prob before. I'm gonna check to see if there's a zoomed pic of the cap somewhere.

check segasonicfan's "S-video on the PSone screen" thread. there should be that chip's circuit diagram on there, and the caps are labeled, I believe.
