power...what am i doing wrong!

Post by peacefrog226 »

i just got a brand new nus001 board

ive tried 2 battery configurations

one with a 12V source (8 AA), and a seperate 3V source(2AA)

the second a 12 volt source wih a 3v converter

for both, when i connect it up, the red power light comes on, but i get no video, i believe the video is contolled by the 12 v line right? because the power light does come on with only the 3 volt line attached!

ive studdies may diagrams explaining this, and im pretty sure ive done it correctly

why cant i get video!!
im positive my board cant be friend
ive had it for like 10 minutes!!

thanks!

eric

you'd be surprised how easily they fry. mine did that, same symptoms and everything and i was careful with it. i've heard that if you take out the xpansion/jumper pack and turn it on for a few seconds and then turn it off and put the expansion/jumper pack back in it might fix it

Have you plugged the other side of the video cable into your TV?

Not being sarcastic here, because I've done that before. I also forgot to put the TV on Video mode, so check that too.

mines done that, first take out your game and expansion pack, then put your expansion pack in and power it on for at least ten seconds then turn it off and put a game in and power it back on, its worked for me

the 3.3v line takes around 1.5 amps, make sure your batteries can handle that. the 12v line can take anything from 7.2-36v so your problem is either 3.3v or maybe ground but probably the 3.3v. 3v is pretty low for it so maybe you could use 3 rechargable batteries in series

sounds like a 3V line problem to me. Try 3 Rechargeables in series (as daguuy suggests), that'd give you 3.6, which hopefully wouldn't fry it. I belive NUS-001's can take up to 5V on the 3.3V line, but DON'T try it until someone can confirm that, as I'd hate to be responsible for someone frying there board.

Mine also comes on with no video, but I did try and move the cart slot. I'm pretty sure its still working, but just can't get it to. I also removed the power connector, so can't see if its down to dodgy wiring either. Once i get a new one I can carry on with my portable, but it's taking a while to come, cursed eBay.

it works!!

i used a rechargeable battery from a cordless phone and it works great!

i figured out why my 3v line coming off my converter didnt work- it only put out 300 ma max, that is not 1.5A therefore, no go

so ive got to either get a high power converter (another 30 bucks) or use 2 seperate power supplies

anything cheaper i can do to get 3.6 volts from my 12 volt power supply?

if you need a better power converter, read my "so many resistors!" thread. i'm pretty sure it covers everything. make sure to read the whole thing, the 1st idea with the 7805 and resistor isn't the good one

ok i will!

first off, im so glad to hav e this thing powered offa batteries!!
it assures me that this project is possible!

what about achiening 3.6 colts from 7.2v. im going toi try it with 7.2 volts and see if it works. if it does, are the options better or worse?

well, i had EXACTLY the same problem, and then i tried the jumper pack fixxy idea, and that made it worse... fried the 12 V w/e, light didnt even come on. then as i walked away my leg got cought on the A/V cord and it ripped the mobo half way across the room, then i started desoldering random parts from it in protest, to this day im still waiting for a new n64 to arrive at EB

if you wanted a separate power supply you could use a PSP battery:

not very high capacity. it'll work for a little over an hour but if you want better battery life, get 1 high capacity battery or battery pack, maybe a few in parrallal and something to get 3.3v out of it
