A few questions

Post by JariV »

Hi there!

I have some questions about making a portable N64, and would love some answers :P

1) I want to buy these batterys, but how do you charge them? (Batterynoob)
2) Can I use the analoge stick of a 3rd party GC controller?
3) Wtf is the difference between a desoldering iron and a soldering iron? I do soldering and desoldering with the same iron?
4) Is a 15~30 watt soldering iron okay?

Thanks in advance!

2) third party analog sticks vary but some may work. It just has to match the same pot value as the n64 or gamecube joystick
3) a desoldering iron has a pump on it, it sucks up the solder while heating it, it much easier to use
4) thats a good power range.

1: Those batteries look pretty iffy to me. Try getting some off-brand infolithiums, makes charging much simpler.
2: I believe you can, but you'd need a 3rd party N64 controller to do that anyways, so it would be pointless.
3: A soldering iron attaches parts together. A desoldering iron is a soldering iron with a hole in the center and a bulb to suck in solder (i.e. to remove solder). Personally, I think you should just get a nice soldering iron and use a braid or pump.
4: That will work well, but be careful using a 10$ radioshack on SMD ICs.

What does iffy meen exactly? Sory, I'm not English.

Ok, I'll just buy a pump then.

It's not a cheapo soldering iron :)

Thanks for the answers!

Iffy means it's questionable or doesn't look quite real, 5 batteries like that would cost at least $100, meaning it's probably not real, or a cheap chinese battery, which suck.

Ok, thanks!

Has anyone got a good idea for batterys? I don't want 'em too big, but I want at least 4 hours runtime. My screen is an official PSOne screen, w/o/ the led mod (is it better to do the led mod? And if so, were can I find a good tut?).

You're going to need at least 6000mAh to get that, maybe even 7000.

These are really small and 4 of them should work. 2 pairs each in series, with both pairs in parallel.

You'd get about 5 hours

4 of them O_o
To 2 would give me 2.5 to 3 hours? I think i'll settle for that too then :P

But again, how do you charge them? I'm a real battery noob.

EDIT: oh, I see they dont ship to the Netherlands?
EDIT2: oh, they do ship to NL. For 70 friggin' dollars!

The same site has chargers, and you'll need a protection circuit. And you'll get about 3 hours using two of them.

http://www.batteryspace.com/highpowerpo ... arate.aspx Batteries

http://www.batteryspace.com/pcbfor74vli ... limit.aspx protection circuit

http://www.batteryspace.com/smartfastch ... ypack.aspx This charger will work but there is a faster charging one on the site. For some reason the link isn't working. I'll put the link up later.

And you will need 2 of those batteries.

Ok, then batterys will come to a total of ±50 euros. But, shipping is very expensive. Does anyone know a dutch or european webshop for batterys?

you could have them shipped to me in the US, then I could ship to you for $5-$20, depending on what kind of service you want.

That is a expansion for a thing called the Nintendo 64 DD, it was only released in Japan because it was a flawed product. It's a totally useless piece on the board.
