I have a decapitated DS, what should I do with it?

Post by Kyo »

A friend of mine was testing the durability of his DS by throwing it against the wall

Long story short, I have two halves of one DS, otherwise working. What should I do with it?

I already have a DS lite so just repairing it would be boring

make the bottom part a new case mod for a snes controller :D
Sometimes, life isn't fair, but you just have to work around it.

that would be such a waste of the DS itself, though :P

Besides, I don't particularly prefer the DS over the SNES controller. Quite the opposite, actually...

...mhmmm...

Maybe I should build it in a SNES controller?

You should buy a new screen off DealExtreme for $9, then fix it. ;) A new case is like $5.

Another idea is that you could use it as a real big Gameboy Micro. You could play GBA games on the bottom screen without needing to use the top screen.

If the top and bottom screens are similar enough, maybe you could wire up some kind of switch so that you can toggle between displaying the top and bottom screens on the remaining touch screen. Then you could still play DS games that just use the bottom screen as a menu.

or I could just buy a new ribbon for like 7€ and have a functional DS. But that's not good enough. I already have a functional DS lite. I want to do something cool! Come on, guys, where's your creativity?

Take a gameboy original, cut it into a front face and a bottom face. Use bondo to attack the DS Case/hinges to it, and have it look like a normal gameboy... Until you open it!

Creative enough? Or, make a DS projector, I have made one with crap optics (Read: plastic toy parts), so expect to spend at least $20 in optics to look nice, plus a good light source.

You could give it to me! :P If you're willing to part with it, maybe you should hold a contest of some sort, and give it to the winner. Probably not the suggestion you're looking for, but just a suggestion...Happy face.

Get the top screen working again, and then do a cool casemod. Maybe a steampunk-inspired one. Or put it in something unexpected and have a stealth DS.

This would be awesome with a relocated cart slot for GBA in the normal cart spot and the DS slot in the battery holder. It might have to be a little fatter than a GBO, but maybe not.

I agree with the GBO idea. That would be sweet. I wonder if you can connect 2 top screens and 2 controllers?

That would actually not be all that hard to do seeing as how I have a gazillion GBOs.

As for me being back, yeah, you guys know the drill. Sometimes I just gotta take a break for a couple of months. I still gotta finish that atari too.

DS projector?
