Engraving/Etching on the 360 hdd

Post by p12nash »

Hey,
I lost my 360 hdd and am currently buying a new one. I will probably end up buying a 20gb and a 120gb wd bevs hdd and doing the mod, and I was just wondering if anyone knew if and how I could put a 1 in front of the 20 on the hdd so it says 120 hdd. I would like this to actually look like the 120gb ones do, otherwise I just won't bother.

Thanks

Just buy a 120gb. It'll only cost, like, $20 more after all the crap you go through with this one.

Either that, or buy an insanely huge HDD, like a 280gb. That will get you noticed.

there's this paper you print on and it kinda works like a removable tattoo, except for surfaces that aren't your skin. Try that?

edit: wait, that's a stupid idea

how about buying a broken one? then again, basement modder is probably right

ya, I would do that, but according to what I have read the 360 will only recognize hard drives as 20, 60, or 120gb depending on a code on the hdd

I may be wrong, but I do not think you can just swap drives out. Or can you?

You can on the PS3, it takes a laptop HDD. I'd assume the 360 isn't much different...

Sorry to have such a negative first post, but I'm afraid you're wrong, Basement. Microsoft make money from the drives after all, so (unless things have changed since I last heard) they only allow certain models of HDD - in order to upgrade you need to buy the same drive used in a commercial Microsoft HD, like the WD Bevs, limiting you to 20, 60 and 120gb. You then need to use a tool to correctly format the drive so the 360 can use it.

Crap, huh?

Actually JamieK, you are a little bit off as well. The microsoft licensed 360 hdds use samsung drives and the wd bevs ones are required for a tool that fools the xbox into thinking the bevs drive is a 360 licensed drive.

Make a stencil of the one, get an engraver tool (My dollar store has them half the time), then put the stencil perfectly on (The stencil should of been 120 by the way so you can line up the 2 and the 0), then tape down the stencil. Engrave as best as you can. Worst case scenario, people ask why the 1 is so crappy, say I modded it myself, something you won't be able to do!

Or just buy a broken 120GB harddrive off ebay (The 360 one)

Dark-Aries so it is engraved?

I wasn't sure if the lettering was etched, engraved, or put on by some other means

No it's just a sticker on the HDD that will probbably never come off...but the 1 would look really cool if it was engraved.
