Has there been a portable of the standard SNES?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Has there been a portable of the standard SNES?

Post by Rich »

I know of the mini-SNES, which is ultra rare in New York, so I just want to make a portable out of my own old SNES, but it's the standard one that everyone has. Is it going to mean that the portable will be very big, or does it just mean I have to remove more parts? Has anyone even made a portable out of a standard SNES? If so, are there instructions of blueprints?

Sorry for my streak of questions, I know I made several threads filled with questions. 8)

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

I just completed my SNESp and it uses a first type (1992) SNES board. It looks nice and is comfortable. You might have to make a custom case though.
There is a lot of extra space on the front of the board which can be cut off, and it uses only 100mA more than the mini.

Look further down on the 16 bit page-its called SNESp Mark II.
If all else fails, take it apart!

It looks very nice and compact. Do you have any pictures labeling what you removed?

Bens CNC Snes portable was made from a version 1, and is quite small, the original version 1 SNES board can have a lot cut off it because it ultizes empty space for nothing :? A strange idea not on Nintendo's behalf, maybe they think size matters, atari does.

are you sure Ben's CNC SNES portable is made from the standard one? Because it doesn't say that anywhere in the book, unless I'm missing something

Yes, it very well could be, but then again, it may be a mini-snes, but they are getting rare in places, even running out on ebay from the last few times I've checked.

Yes it does.
#4 - Super Nintendo Entertainment System Portable (CNC-cut case)
Chapter 11

Also uses the small "mini-SNES" The screen is a 3" TFT active matrix pocket television. It's a much more compact system overall, measuring 4.75" x 6.75" x 1.75"

also, Ben always likes making his portables as small as possible, so obviously he'd only use the mini-snes :)....
