iPod Linux?

If you're dumb enough to open up your ipod instead of resetting it (hold down center and menu), then you have no business trying this. I put iPL on about six different nanos and on my iPod Video (I charged people to do it too haha). If you have less than 4GB of storage, there is no point in doing this. It's hard enough to manage your music on only 4GB, but now you have to manage ROMs and videos too! iPod Linux is too advanced for you. If you want to play videos on your iPod nano and you aren't good at writing programs or aren't very good at Linux or computers at all, I would recommend the Rockbox installation. http://build.rockbox.org/ and click on the "iPod Nano 1st gen" button. Download the .zip file, and run the installer with your iPod plugged into the computer. READ THE WIKI if you want to put stuff like videos on it. Also, there is a forum with people that have helped other kids do stuff with their iPods that have more trouble with stuff than you so that will probably help you. Sorry for the long post.

You don't need 4GB...I have a 2GB Nano with all my Music, GB Roms, and like 2 episodes of Family Guy. I have like 200 MB left

My 2GB 1st Gen Nano is perfectly fine with iPodLinux. I actually think it's the best for it - the video has a nice color screen but damn slow disk access!. The new NES emulator works great too.

You don't NEED a 2GB, but 4GB is best. That way, depending on how much music you listen to, (not too much if you are confined to 2GB) you can still have room left over for for the Linux OS or Rockbox and all the fancy garbage you want to put on your iPod like videos and games and such. If you don't care about your music and just want to soup up your iPod, 1GB is fine and you can still have a few CDs worth of music on it. Again, it all depends on how much extra media you are planning on loading your iPod with.

I have a Dell 8400 and a Macbook. The Nano is a Winpod and I think the Video is a Macpod.

Murdok, if you don't know what you're doing then just stop, take a deep breath and look up info on the ipod linux site and read about what you need to do first. Oh, and you can only do the install with a usb 2.0 port. the 1.1 doesn't get recognized.

My ipod (4th gen 20 gig) has recently messed up and now is completely unresponsive for whatever reason all it shows is the apple logo and when i plug it into my computer the first frame of the charging icon. None of the controls work and its not even recognized as anything by my pc. Does anyone know what to do with it? Sorry that this is off topic but i figure that i might have a similar problem to murdok, even though I didnt screw up my ipod with linux.

Wow...where have I been. Theres a GBA Emulator for iPL. It runs 50-60% real speed with Sound.
