iPod Linux?

Post by Murdok09 »

I apologize for yet another thread, but this is my last for a few days. I was wondering if someone could give me an in-depth guide on how to get some movies on my 2gb nano. If you could give me links and download sites, that would be great, but I kind of need this before morning, so speed=awesome. I want Podzilla and Linux on my pod, but I can't get it to work...any help?

There are like 15 folders and four programs to install. I don't get what I am supposed to do as this is old and no videos for the guides work.

I reccommend you don't do it if you have no clue. Again, who os are you using, is it a macpod or a winpod?

I have a 2GB iPod Nano (Win). It works perfect, I can watch movies, play Gameboy, etc.

I recommend Floydzilla 2 Final. It's my favorite version of iPod Linux

Is it a second generation Nano? The iPod Linux site says it's not supported...

Is it even possible to brick them? I thought all you had to do is reboot it into disk mode and run the restore utility.

You can't brick them (knock on wood) very easily any more. I have "bricked" mine four times by traditional standards and I only reboot in disk mode and restore. I will try floydzilla 2 final. I have a 1st gen by the way.

Sorry about the double post, but I can't figure out this stuff. Could someone please give me DIRECT links to where to download and tell me what to do? I have looked for days and I get to ipodlinux.org and it talks about nothing being supported by anything and that basically if you want it now you are SOL. So please help!

Well, you can if you are doing it through the mac. You have to redo the firmware, destructivly.

Look man, how do you think we found out READ THE WIKI ON IPODLINUX.ORG

I've installed ipodlinux 10 or 15 times with a Mac, gotta keep up with the releases. It's kinda hard to brick; the installer makes it a one-click process. Just don't do anything stupid like yank the cord halfway through, or have your computer run out of battery/shut down. I guess if you used something other than the installer it would be pretty risky, but why would you do that...

Some of the old, unofficial releases (floydZilla ftw) were a little, okay very unstable. But all you had to do was reboot and, plug it in if you wanted to reintstall. The installer makes it very hard to mess up.

The new app loader rules, before you had to recompile (I think, I never tried it), or something else very complicated in order to get new apps in there.

iPodLinux FTW!!

I bricked the pod! Ha! It just shows the apple logo and is unresponsive. I am going to open it and disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Check out my other thread here for something I am designing (shuffle screen)!

... just restart the thing, that happened to me, and I restarted it, and it worked fine!(oh yeah, and check to see if the hold button isn't on :) )
