I love my family MGB. It's so fun to drive, but it's not quite reliable enough to use as a daily driver and it's carburated so it's not the most economical.

What I'm going to get for myself is an early 80's diesel Volkswagon Rabbit. My main reason for that is because it gets 50mpg. I don't get why people are freaking out over these new expensive hybrids that get 50mpg when diesel was doing it 20+ years ago.

Some mods I'm going to do to the rabbit include giving it a turbo charger, air conditioner, 6 speed tranny if it only has a 4 speed, and a train horn.

Is it hard to walk to the left? Or do you just walk around in random circles a lot. :P

My car: 1999 Saturn SL 4 door. 4 speed automatic. SOHC I4 engine, roughly 90 HP. Bone stock except the head unit, which the people I bought it from replaced themselves so the whole dashboard rattles. Can't complain about getting 35 MPG with the AC on, though.

Our old beater truck: 1974 Dodge D200 Custom 3/4 ton pickup. 225 in³ Slant-6, ??? HP, rebuilt in 1985. 4 speed manual. 8' bed with original tailgate. Passenger side floor. I think it's a Dayna rear end (it looks like the axles can be swapped without removing the wheels), maybe a 50 or 60. I want to fix this thing eventually, since the frame is still good and all it needs is a new driver's side floor pan and rear brake pistons to be street legal again. To be safe it needs a bunch of other stuff. The only reason it's not a 1+ ton truck is the engine. But jeez with a V8, bucket seats, and a lap/shoulder belt... (It has both but only one can be used at a time.)

Since searching for "1974 dodge" on Google Images will probably only give you pictures of Challengers, here's a similar truck.

(Ours has no camper, two-tone paint or side trim, and it's a dark orange / brown color.)

Well I'm currently in no position to get a car. I got my license late, and will probably get it next summer after working full time from February fr $1000/month minimum wage.

What kind of car gets good mileage and has a spacey feel on the inside? This car will most definitely be modded with at least a screen or game console. Perhaps wireless internet, and I can go stealing other people's signals when I'm too poor to afford it!

Insurance my parents will pay for, as driving two kids to University by 2 parents with full time jobs is not exactly possible. Right now I have roughly 1200 saved. I'm hoping for a run-down mustang, or some old crap car to tide me over. Not exactly spacey but still, it's a comfortable ride.

Any ideas? What kind of car should I be going for? 25+ mpg would be preferred. The car should last at least 5 years, because until then I'll be paying for University, which is $5000/year. I'll also be paying for gas. On a 4 month summer job. Which would be $4000 minimum, probably closer to 5000, if I start right away.
Hey, sup?

volvo for the win, i will get one eventually! a 740 or 940 turbo wagon, big roomy decently powerful (155hp appx) and good gas milage because of 2.4l 5cylinder. also volvos will outlast you  its very common to see volvos with 200,000+ miles and still going strong, 300k+ is fairly common too

Honda Civics (~'96) and Ford Escorts ('87) can get 40mpg (mostly highway, manual) and the Ford Focus('02) gets about 35mpg under the same conditions. We have had all of them within the last few years. The Escort had about 212,000 miles on it when we sold it ($100, wish we'd kept it), engine and tranny were still running like champs, but the rest of the car was falling apart around them. The seat behind the driver's seat had to be folded forward to hold the driver's seat up, there was something that would need replacing about every month (always a cheap fix, <$20 usually). Then we got the Focus and hand it for about 2 years, it was pretty good, but was starting to get to where there was something wrong every so often, sold it about 6 months ago for $3-4000. Now we have the Civic, been good so far, bought it for ~$3600 a few months ago.

My dad drove all of them about 60 miles total to work and back every weekday, no major problems with any of them.

Decent enough, my dad is 6' 2" ~210 lbs and survived driving about an hour and a half total each day to and from work. Good mileage+roomy=hard to come by.
