i dont think myspace is that bad. yes its badly made and run, but it is also free and very popular. the fact its so popular really is what seperates it from the other profile sites, in that you can pretty much find anyone you know it would seem. hardly anyone i know doesnt have a myspace profile and theyre not all attention whores. most the the time is just a way of keeping in contact with people.
plus i think myspace music is brilliant, i can spend hours on there looking around. that in combination with pandora and torrents has stopped me from ever opening a p2p program scince.
i think "geeks and nerds" are intrinsically going to hate myspace becuase of a number of reasons. people who classify themselfs as such are sperting themselfs from what they would call the norm, and try to dissassciate them selfs witht he norm in order to fill the stereotype they believe is thier personality.
also myspace is badly made, this pisses off most people, even non geeks.
if you dont like the idiots on myspace just ingnore it and dont look at thier profiles. the world is full of poop egress, when i see someone i know im not going to get along with i simply dont talk to them. why should the internet be any diffrent.
i also think that we can pay myspace some respect for getting more females on the intenet and learning how to use computers for fun. while men like to play with things for no reason other than self satisfaction i think women need to do things that have purpose. in my internet using career ive noticed that several things have brought women to the internet: MSN and myspace.
i do a multimedia broadcasting course at uni, and even though ive been doing html for about 10 years and am highly proffcent, i was shocked by how many people had learn to code pretty well, just from initaially wanting to persoanalise the profile.
please dont be angry nerds and pick apart my generalisations becuase im aware thats what they are, but sterotypes exist becuase they do and surely you can understand the statesments im making.

i think its a deep part of human psychology, i think its the reason why most men have several hobbies and women tend not too. the leaders of most feilds, even in predominatly femal exploits tend to be men. you could argue that its becuase men are dominant in society, but i think its becuase men tend to obsess over thier hobbies and interests and make them thier lifes work.
im not saying women are incapable of doign the same thing, but i think its a predominatly male trait to do so. we have a ego to satisfy and i think men are more self involved and less social than women, which often leads to obsession into hobbies which then leads to expertise in that subject.
