I hate Vista

I have a MacBook.
I've had to reinstall OSX about 7 times. Now I use XP. Haven't had a problem yet because I properly maintain my computer.

"MAcs" are PC's too.

XP runs a lot faster than OS X does overall on the same machine, even when I first bought it.

That's completely untrue, and at best, a trivial statement. Why have you had to reinstall OS X 7 times? That's just plain ridiculous. Unless you go mucking around in the system folder and start deleting stuff, there's no reason that you would need to reinstall OS X. You either have no idea how to use a Mac, or you are simply lying...

Oh, and you "Haven't had a problem yet" because you "properly maintain" your computer? Well maybe you should try "properly maintaining" OS X.

I thought the purpose of a OSX was that you didnt have to maintain it?

7 Times, yes, exxaguration. twice, not an exxaguration. That was before I install XP, and I did the built-in simple things like garageband and iTunes, before I realised how crap they are. Tons of safari browsing too.

It slows down greatly after a while, and then it started to refuse to let me open up safari. Gradually, this spread to many of my programs. No idea why, but then I reinstalled, and it was ok.

My sister's computer had a similar program, but it just stayed at the grey apple.





So, mac is supportedly customizable? Oh yeah, you can pick from grey or blue. How nice.

I also hate the OS because of apple's crap commericals, in which it stereotypes all "PC's" as running windows on an old machine. They base their prejudice with their Apple computers versus some ten year old computer.

Up to the point that Vista was released, XP was a product that was 6 years old. OS X has a had a modest improvement about every 2 years. So saying that when they compared the Apple computer to a PC and make the gesture that it's old, that's not a lie, maybe an exaggeration.

Also I too have to admitt the commercials are becoming utter and total jokes. The web cam was going too far, perticularlly when you're talking about computers in general and then pull up a $1100-2100 laptop as something where a web cam is standard. Gee now that's funny a web cam that likely costs about $5 to install and Apple is just putting them in? It's not a popular feature but then it's not something people are going to use a lot, it's a novelty like cameras in cell phones.

Apple should just sell their computers as they are high end machines. Hell with the money some gamers throw out they should advertise that to them. The things nothing but a mountain of power.

As for the commercials, I'm talking about the performance of the machine itself. i.e. such as the "upgrading to vista" and others that say it's slower.

They also say that you can't do things right out of the box for XP, which is BS.

I wish they'd sell their computers without their system on it.

OSX is OS 10, what Macs run as of now (with patches and what not) . There's no X in the OS name.

Any who, I'm a windows guy myself, mainly because of the games, and the fact that my PC cost about $400 less than a Mac. Now granted the GPU in one of them would've been better, but my X800 was $50!

That's very silly.

OS 9 is the "old world" system, which had roots in the old System .98 that came out with the original Mac in '84, and a lot in common with System 7 whihc came out in 1990. OS X is a complete, ground-up rewrite based off a Unix core.

Versions of OS X that have come out are 10.3, 10.4, and so on. There is no OS X 7 or 10 9. That's like saying "You're running Windows 95 XP! You should be running Windows 2000 XP!"

For crying out loud, Triton. Why don't you see how big the Amiga OS is, I mean lines of code. Then see about starting an online project to trans-code or port the OS to the x86 CPU. We know you love your Amiga, we know you'd go into a depression should it ever stop working, but come on.

And just so you know the BSD project DragonflyBSD uses Amiga style home directory. That might be the closest you'll get right now to having Amiga OS on the x86 CPU. You know how to navigate a Unix Sytem V (most Linux distros) so figuring out BSD file structure shouldn't be hard.

Though again I say you want Amiga OS that badly you should take the first step and start getting people moving towards it. If there are people still coding on Amigas, and there are people still developing Amiga compatible hardware you should find some people that will support the idea.

i 100% agree with you aside from one small detail. we cant. the amigaOS is closed source, its owned by a company and they arent doing jack with it, there are talks of another run of the amigaONE systems that run os4 but we dont know. yes there are open source amiga styled operating systems (morphOS AROS dragonfly which you mentioned and the like) but the support for those operating systems is limited, not many devs work with them and there isnt much initiative for the amiga crowd to look at the alternatives to amigaOS while there is still classic amiga hardware running os1.2-3.9 and also 4 with blizzard cards and the like. and the likelyhood of the company that owns amiga to allow it to be ported is almost zero.

I totally run Windows 98 Second XP Professional x64 Home Premium Edition!

I'm thinking of buying Vista Home Premium for myself in a few weeks. It only costs $119 on Newegg for the OEM version. By then I'll have 3GB of Ram and a nice 640MB GeForce 8800xyzwhatever if all goes according to plan. Now if only my power supply could support all that ~_~

If you want to keep Vista on it, you should probably reinstall from scratch.

I know it seems weird, but give Vista a couple months on the market, so some of the obvious security flaws can be worked out. Then switch when it's stable and the hype dies down.

hey Unix is a secure, stable kernel to base your system on. Microsoft mostly re-wrote Vista, yet they stuck with the same old NT kernel that runs NT 3.1, NT 4, Windows 2000, and Windows XP...

Seriously, I'm going to stick with XP until I absolutely have to switch, which won't be for a good long while. Even then I'll switch to OS X, not upgrade to Vista. I hate OSes that talk down to you like you're five.
