Ok, I'm getting sick of everyone saying just get such and such. Like " just get a Mac ", or vice versa. It's not like we don't know theres other OS's out there. So it doesn't help or add to the thread at all to suggest another OS, Unless there asking for another OS or something to that effect.Felino wrote:Just get a mac (or hackintosh, for legal resons not alowed on this site) they never get anything!
To prove it to one of my friends, I turened of the firewall, and all protection, downloaded a whole lot off cooky programs, ran em. And hey presto! Nothing new on this mac. And if you really want to, you can run this inferior operating system *cough* copyed *cough* called windows! or tri boot if you wish with linux!
Macs are overall btter.

PS the reason there is no viruses currently for the mac is because there are so many less mac users then PC users, same for any Linux distros.
.
I've heard of mac viruses (or at least they're possible), but the small user amount decreases the effect of a a virus, so it isn't as damaging to make a mac virus. Its about the same with Linux. And Windows is so easily taken over by a virus, Microsoft is almost asking for viruses to spread and rule their software.gamemasterAS wrote:PS the reason there is no viruses currently for the mac is because there are so many less mac users then PC users, same for any Linux distros.

Yeah Vista is crap. Linux+Cedega=Forget Windows all together.
When I got the Vista Beta 2 it all worked fine, but after about a month of running on my computer, I began getting strange errors and glitches with it. It grew worse and worse over time, and now that partition won't even boot. I know it wasn't a virus because that PC wasn't connected to the internet (wireless card driver wouldn't install properly on Vista).
[conspiracy] I think that Vista was designed to self destruct so that you would potentially have to pay some sort of fees for tech support from MS or something [/conspiracy]

Yah Windows Beta
I own a Student copy of Windows Vista Ultimate and all I can say is awsome. I did run spyware checks and virus checks and so far no viruses and no spyware yet on a install thats 1.5 weeks old....You tell your friend to stop looking at porn now.
I don't like it when people say "just get a Mac", the macs I have used are unstable (i get more crashes using Macs then PCs) and just plain dumb (one mouse button wtf?). And this includes the Mac Labs here in UT. When you log out of the PC and Mac Labs it on automatically rebuilds the harddrive so I dont know what the deal is. Anyways buy what you want to buy. I like PCs and some people like Macs and even fewer like Linux.
If i was a Mac User I wouldnt want people to get Macs. The less out there the less of a chance of someone writing a virus.

Sure, they do NOW. The only reason they made mice for Macs with more than one button is because of Windows. All Macs used to have one mouse button, but when Macs started supporting Windows, they needed the right click, which is fundamental to getting around Windows. Thus multi-button mice for Macs were born.Felino wrote:For one. Macs do not have one button. They have 3 or 4 like a windows computer.

No, they had multi-button support long before the switch to Intel processors. Heck even Mac OS 8 had context menus. They just recently started making first party multi-button mice.Mageslayer wrote:Sure, they do NOW. The only reason they made mice for Macs with more than one button is because of Windows. @Bic: Interesting, I didn't know. I was going on information I'd heard from people and some that I'd read here.
@Felino: First, I'm not flaming anything (except maybe you now that you've accused me of such
) Read the link above and know that I was not just barging in from nowhere and talking out of my ass. You said rekarp had been "told a lie" when the only things in his post that you retaliated against (his claims that Macs crash and have only one mouse button) were things he experienced himself. Maybe I don't know every obscure fact, and maybe I'm sometimes misinformed. However, at least I can read.

I know it is not Vista. I have known people to get viruses titled like system software, that way you thinki it is important and don't delete it or mess with it.
I know all about Vista's problems. I got the Beta (or is it Alpha) version (pre-relase, Evaluation copy). It didn't even work when I first got it. It had tons of glitches and everything. It had and still has compatability issues, but I fixed everything else. I am running it on my computer right now and it works with all of my current software (well, most) and I have had no major problems other than a few glitches that caused it to shutdown unexpectedly but that was a long time ago and I fixed it know.
It must be a virus, I never have got one but I have fixed comput4ers with them, boot off of a linux disc and find the virus and delete it (search and destroy). I hope you get it working

First off guys I can say Vista isn't anything special, I bought a new laptop and it came with Vista (Basic) pre-installed. It's XP PS3 with a OS X file structure, OS X look, and backwards compatibility sucks. I really don't like it, I'm just glad Acer had the hard drive partitioned so I could put Ubuntu on the second half.
I would also advise people on suggesting Macs. Be sure that the person you're making the suggestion to doesn't run any programs that are Windows only, and there are many. Also a guy in my VB class has a Mac BookPro that he dual boots OSX and Vista on. He has the misfortune of requiring the right-click for a lot of programs and so needs and external mouse.
Now I don't know I might start using Vista, I have it already, I can get Vista Business for free, depends when anything unique and worth my time investment on the system is warranted, cause the requirements for running Vista are only possible for 2 out of the (now) 5 machines I have. And when it's a requirement of 512MB ram for the OS, I'm going to need to have the system equipped with 1024MB for sure.
