Anyone want to make a Wiimote Mod? Armcannon ftw.

Includes PS2, Xbox 1, GameCube (but not the Phantom Game Console)

I have been working on this on and off for about 2 and a half years. Of that period of time I can only remember working on it for numerous hours around 2 sessions. It was originally going to be something super secret and then I pondered on making it a Gamecube controller like the RE4 chainsaw controller. What it will be in a year is something only time will tell. Hopefully it
will not take on the hobby of collecting dust.

If I ever did an arm cannon thing I'd set it up as a Megaman arm cannon. I know it makes less sense than a samus cannon, but I'm a big Megaman fan, and it could work just the same(except a fatter pipe and simpler detail).

Also with the whole control stick/nunchuck, I'd just make that separate, so your still able to perform separate remote and nunchuck motions. Or set up a nunchuck into a samus/megaman styled glove if you want to get really fancy.

Nintendo might look into this, as it solves the remotes in TV problem. Hard to lose your grip when its stuck on your arm with hard plastic.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

You should make a Vacume Form Mold of it so that it can be preserved/mass produced

Hmm... this is an interesting idea. The way I see this is (whether it's possible/easy to do is unknown to me) Eh, I'll see if I can draw it.... words don't seem to be able to easily explain this. :?

Damn, man. That's awesome. I generally gave up on this thread, and was waiting for a response from Turbo Tax 1.0, who I've been talking with, and when I came to check... *BAM*! A whole page of discussion. Seriously, whether or not that's going to be a remote, nice work.

Well, like I said, we'd been talking, I made up some pictures/3Dmodels to express the idea. I can post them to help explain my solution to the nunchuck control problem, as well as a few others:

Image
^Maybe what the joystick inside would look like...

Image
^ How the Nunchuck could be controlled separately, if need be for puzzles in Metroid, or if I wanted to use this with any other game. I drew this before we were 100% sure that the joystick would be controlled from the inside.

Image

^A crude model I made in about half an hour, to give a clearer idea of what I had in mind. All the buttons are too big, and proportions are off, but it gets the job done. See that big, big button on top? That'd be designed like a side-view of a morph ball. The C button is used for morphing in the demos, so... yeah,

It's still a work in progress. I was thinking of having extra buttons lying around, too. That way, if the controls are moved before the game's release, or I want to play another game with it, things can be moved around for comfort and accessibility.

^THAT'S AWESOME!

Seriously, this is such an amazing idea! I'm definitely doing this when I get a Wii... in a couple of years. Seriously though, wow, great drawings and great concept.

I'll offer advice where possible - such an awesome project.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thread goes for many many pages if this project does come to fruition. Maybe I'm so pumped about it because I was just playing Metroid Prime a little while ago...

make the project a Learning experience.. start with a single screen Samus Aran vr helmet with standard composite inputs (use component if the screen allows its). then make a left handed power glove out of a Wii nunchuck. have the c button mapped to the index finger, z mapped to thumb and control stick bulging out of your palm. Now make a wireless sensor bar and pvc piping stand. make a chest plate to hold the Wii and boots for style. now comes the hardest part, make the arm cannon with the A,B,1,2,+, and - buttons inside the arm and the home and arrow keys in the pop up hatch.

I could try to do one with a Master Sword if you want to donate some cash for a wiimote.

Wow. Good idea, but I'm sure its out of my price range.

Well, TurboTax had to drop for a few reasons, so the projects free to pick up. Here are a few of the ideas we discussed:

- Orange LEDs to replace the blue remote indicator lights, and/or LEDs arrayed on the arm cannon to light up when the firing button is pressed.
- Using old cellphone vibrators to up the power the remote has, and give just a really cool element of realism.
- You know those blood-pressure testers? cushions like those, inside, by the entrance, so the player's arm doesn't slip around while playing.
- Air vents, so it doesn't get all sweaty inside
- Something about replacing the dip switch idea with "huge traces and a labeled perf board", so I could just solder buttons to where I want them

If anyone wants to pick this up seriously, just say so. But I'd prefer someone with more experience then... nothing. I was thinking of keeping development public, too, to keep ideas flowing.

A high estimate
50$ screen
40$ wiimote
20$nunchuck (and you would be waiting for a 3rd party wireless one)
100$ in tubing
20$ sensor bar
200$ in sheet metal for the visor and chest plate (boots would add 50$ anbd have no purpose)
20$ in coffee (for the cans to be reshaped into the arm, i hope you like folgers!)
10$ a metal cutting tool
50$ Bolts, washers, nuts, etc
100$ Spray Paint

Getting your girl to walk around the house in it: PRICELESS

Edit: = 610$ for an fps only controller.

but you could cut 150 off the top with cheaper metal, pvc pipes, and paint. could also use a cheaper screen.

IF you were a rich docter you could even forget the screen alltogether and use a tiny projecter. so you COULD walk around in it by turning off the screen
