Why can't you just have a memory card that record the state of the cpu like directly from cpu. like replacing cpu's one with a copied state?

He talked about that, if you do that when you start the game back up the CPU will not know what operations it was in the middle of, going to recieve and what it had just done.

what about taking the cpu off the game and onto a built in program

Here is the email of someone who can help with this. BTTDgroup@hotmail.com
Their is an input on the nes' expansion port that actually will freeze the cpu and ppu with their current code. He used that fact to be able to freeze games that you can't normally pause, but I think it'd easily be implemented in reading the state of the chips.

Hmmm....can it also be used to SET the moe of the chips?

Edit: I tried to send the e-mail and it said the e-mail account didn't exist.

he means to have the CPU be interuppted to pause running the game to run the game-saving program.

Freezer cartridges allow the running program to be stopped, so that memory images can be backed up, modified or restored.

maybe they messed up the decimel on the 95% compatability and ment 9.5% :P

Edit theyy work by loading the game into ram then fiddling with the games code. Something like that.
