I thought the GC had online play, you just had to buy the broadband adapter.

Anyway, that logo kicks ass, the name doesn't though. Nintendo obviously puts more effort into their graphic artists than their... name choosers.

Nintendo never embraced it or emphasized and thus developers never embraced or emphasized it either. I think there are only like 3 online GC games.

Anyway look at what Jason A from ign has to say about the Wii ( funny  ):

http://blogs.ign.com/JasonA-IGN/2006/04/27/14690/

The Letter "i" Signs Licensing Deal with Nintendo: Wii is the New Revolution

The letter "i" is now the richest letter in the alphabet. Nintendo announced today that their new console will now be called Nintendo Wii. The word uses not one, but TWO images of the letter "i" which is supposed to be prounounced as "We."

As some of you might remember, "i" made a mint a few years ago when it signed a similar deal with Apple. Since then, both iTunes and iPod have made millions of dollars for Apple while becoming one of the fastest growing media technologies in the world.

"I've just been really blessed," said "i" today at a press conference held in San Francisco California. "It's good to see lower case letters like me get a shot at the American dream."

The cousin of letter "i", the "?," has been working overtime today to accomodate the millions of WTF questions posted on the internet in relation to the announcement.

"I'm happy for him and all," said "?," "But this crap just don't make any sense. What the copulate is 'Wii?'"

The actual amount of money "i" made from the deal has not been disclosed to the public. But "i" did manage to give us a hint when asked about the sum:

"I guess you could say 'I'm RICH female of the dog species!'"

Ah that's too bad, I would have loved playing SMBM or something online.

That article is hilarious, especially the way the word filter changes half the words...

I'm rich, FINSTER! haha

Looks like they tooks some hints from the old WWF logo. If Nintendo has the logo setup for the launch titles, I think they're going to stick with this joke. What a mistake, even worse then Xbox 360. With 360 you know Microsoft didn't fix anything they turn all the way around and are back were they started. Nintendo went from GameCube to Wii, from a gaming box to the high-pitch scream a kid makes when they're happy.

How sad.

"The Nintendo Wee with interactive remote"? Sounds like the future in adult entertainment to me.

Biggest bunch of hoo-rah over nothing I've ever seen.

Cart versus CD. Now THAT was a real topic to argue over. So now a name's going to be the silver bullet that somehow kills Nintendo, which has already survived two supposed death knells (N64 and GCN lackluster third party). Wii, wow, sure stupid or not. Some are blaming Nintendo for the confusion it will be causing. Well, I blame... the people! Competent people will be able to see that it's a console, regardless of whatever name it has. Biggest bunch of crybabies I've ever seen, especially the ones who decided to jump ship on Nintendo's new console simply because the new name was "too gay" or something else.

***
I never cared for "mature" games as a kid. Heck, I voluntarily shied away from them as I grew older. When everyone in middle school was playing GTA, I kept by the "un"mature GCN and SNES, for classics and new. Sure, I did have some Medal of Honor, and I do love my Resident Evil. But, when I hear about a cool new game, adult image is never a deciding factor. I suppose Nintendo did that to me. Whatever, I'm content. I also don't play Mario Party or any franchise kidshow games, so I'm "legit."

god damn it nintendo!

i know its silly thing to get worked up about, but its the principle of the matter that pisses me off so much

Nintendo conferance room:
"hey we've got a really good console coming out thats cheaper than our competitors and has a vast back-catalouge of games, this is great."
"hang on, this doesnt seem right, were not top dog anymore and we need to show it. what should we do?"
"Lets alinate our western consumers with a funny name!"
"lets call it urine!"
"no, too graphic, how about wee?"
"yeah, thats it, wait, we've got to disguise it first, how about wii?"
"bingo, that'll confuse everyone"

It seems like everytime nintendo does the opposite of what everyone wants

having said that, a name doesnt really mean much, i hated the name gamcube at first and wanted the dolphin back, but i grew to like gamecube. so there hope yet
