4 Speakers on PSOne LCD- What Do You Think?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

4 Speakers on PSOne LCD- What Do You Think?

Post by eastsider_1 »

HEy, just curious if it is a good idea to wire 4 of the same speaker the PSOne LCD uses for sound instead of 2?? Just 2 speakers vertically on the side of the board, and 2 where they originally belong. I'm making a frankencase out of a Black DVD case and would like to know if i would need an additional amp or would it just use more power? These are obvious questions, just needing some OOMPF on my thoughts. You'll see what i mean.

You'd need either a 1-2amp 7805 running the audio amp on the PSone screen, or an external amp. The built-in amp can barely run those two speakers.

Thought so, now how would i wire it up? Segasonicfan could explain this to me. I would like to have 4 speakers in the case, because it doesnt look good if theres no speaker grills on the side, so i decided to use 4 speakers.

hmmm....well, perhaps you could get 4 4 ohm speakers, and wiring them in series to get two sets of 8 ohms ;). the amperage rating on them would probably have to be the same. now, I'm not sure this would work, but it's worth a shot :P.

Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

No, it just gives you more cone space, and splits wattage in half. Instead of the entire 1 watt going to each speaker, you would now have 1/2 watt to each speaker. Absolutley no gainw hat so ever. In the car audio world where i come from, this would be good for, let's say, two 10" subs, but not a 1 watt LCD monitor amp or speakers... It's worthless.

he just wants the sound/speakers more, er, separated in the portable, I believe. mainly for looks, as he's said.
