radio recasing thing..................vote/poll thingy

Post by Motoman »

After putting my radica portable on hold. (Dam hip-gears) I was bored......and after frying my atari 2600 i was bored....... and after my radio fell on my head, it hit my (literally, that thing weighs like a copulate ton OW!) I needed something to keep myself occupied with soooooo i think i'm going to put the radio in my atari 2600 shell. Although i am already experiencing problems as the tape deck thing is too fat and is causing me to stuff the case and smush it together therefore harming everything to crack (including me :P ). So i want your guys opinion. Take it out or leave it in or something else. VOTE!

1: Take it out! Who the hell listens to tapes! Its 2005 dumbass!!
2: Leave it in so my mom can listen to her Abba tapes.
3: Leave it in so my dad can listen to his Metallica tapes!
4: What is the answer to life the universe and everything?

EDIT: BTW is my avatar too big?

Definitely Number 2. ABBA rocks! Dremels are your friend here. Or you get acquire a cheap $10 radio and $20 FM transmitter from Wally World and use the Atari as your computer speakers!

1. I do! :P
2. ABBA? Dancing Queen remix was OK, most of it, however, isn't all that great IMO.
3. Yeeesss... (Even though I listen to Chicago more)
4. 42!! :D

Jeez you think tapes are old?! Not counting MP3s, a third of my music collection is LPs and 45s! :P Aah, kids today... j/k

Yup. And on a vintage 1975 Sony ps-77 turntable, too. :P In fact, ALL my stereo system is ghetto/retro.

The retro parts:
-said turntable
-Realistic tape deck (2x, one with ASMS, which can automatically skip entire tracks.)
-Realistic 10 band equalizer with seperate sets of sliders for each speaker
-Sony reciever w/ digital tuner, ca. 1988
-2 Realistic speaker boxes retrofitted with new Aiwa subwoofers

The ghetto parts:
-24x CD-ROM drive for CD playback
-custom cable to connect said CD ROM drive to reciever

And of course I have an FM transmitter for my compy so I can play MP3s on kickarse speakers. 8) (actually my piecemeal compy speaker set sounds pretty good...)
Actually I'm somewhat of an audiophile. (I can tell the difference when an MP3 is compressed below 128kb/sec, and I actually prefer the warm sound of analog sources over digital. I actually pull the midrange up a bit so simulate iton Media Player or XMMS, but it's not the same...)

(after a wholesome meal of a veggie delight sub, and a glass of eggnog...)

and now i can fully participate in this dick waving contest

My setup:

Sony STR-AV780 Stereo Video Reciever (w/ digital tuner)
Sony TC-W530 Dual Tape deck
Kenwood Graphic Equalizer (yes i has seperate speaker adjustment which god damn rocks)
Technic TTB-1500 Professional Turntable
iMac G3 (serves as my MP3 and CD player)
iPod 4G (directly connected via headphone to RCA)

2 - Fisher Speakers (you know those tall ones with two tweeters and a sub each)
2 - Unknown Speakers
2 - Altek computer speakers w/ sub

yeah im currently trying to figure out how two add 2 more speakers without doubling up, tis quite purplexing.

yeah, you could say im somewhat of an audiophile...

and i damn hate mp3s encoded at 128 kbps. it sounds so tinny.

Sorry for bringing this up again but its better than making another thread so..
Anyway i am currently cutting speaker holes and reconecting the AM/FM volume and the other switch. I also have the antenna sticking out the back prety nicely but i have to think of a way to get the dial going so i can actually see what station i'm on. Its an array of gears one durning the other and all. Thats pretty much my only problem (so far) I've just tested it and man was it nice to hear Judas Priest blasting through the speakers (it was "Breakin the Law" BTW) stay tuned to further updates

EDIT: Sorry i forgot to mention that i took out the tape deck as it would simply not fit there was no configuration of positions that would make it fit either... oh well....
