One possibility is to get Ni-MH AA-sized rechargeables and battery holders. Wall chargers for these are easy to find, and you can usually get both batteries and charger in a single package. Cheap car amps have 15w/channel, up to 21w/channel.
They're also designed to not draw a ton of power, since some people sit in the car with the key on ACC to listen to music (and don't completely drain their batteries).
If you can deal with 15w/channel, get a T-Amp.
