One possibility is to get Ni-MH AA-sized rechargeables and battery holders. Wall chargers for these are easy to find, and you can usually get both batteries and charger in a single package. You'll need something to generate the 3.3v that the N64 needs, and what's common around here is a TI DC-DC converter, which you might be able to get for free. I didn't go that route myself, but many others have.

Cheap car amps have 15w/channel, up to 21w/channel.

They're also designed to not draw a ton of power, since some people sit in the car with the key on ACC to listen to music (and don't completely drain their batteries).
