First, there's nothing wrong with wanting to build/program computers. Second, ya, people in electronics usually no nothing about electronics but its really not hard to go to the company website and find the part number then ask for it by number in the store.

you could probably just take a gamecube controller, cut off the connector on it and solder on one for a n64. The n64 controller has all the same buttons as a gamecube one (cept x & y) so if it was done right, it would probably work.
