Re: NEST build log

Wow. Just wow. I think this is better then a hand-held NES! Bigger screen and you don't have a huge cart sticking out the back. :) Something like this would be perfect for long trips (in car on Bus or Train; doubt airport security would allow it through) if a battery was added. Otherwise, its just ...

Re: NEST build log

To d_stilgar:

It is 9" x 7" and yes it would fit on the top of a NES box.

To Sonyportabliezer:

It has two video inputs but no sound; no speakers. It also runs on 12 v DC.

Remove the RF Box?

I think I'm over thinking this, and I believe my answer to this question should be yes....but if I have the room should I leave the RF box on?

The only reason I can really think of for removing it is that it will eat-up battery power and I want to maximize battery power. Any thoughts?

Re: NEST build log

Just a quick update, I'm back in the country but only home for a week before I visit the other side of the US. I am slowly trying to pull stuff together for this, and will keep you all updated.

Yes, but not for you. I only say this because if you had to ask you can't do it; if you could do it you would have just told us you were going to do it.

It's a BMA 11" TFT LCD Headrest Monitor With IR Transmitter. The IR Transmitter is for use with the BMA wireless headphones which I didn't get.

Tragically it won't be able to use a lightgun because of the LCD screen. A pair of holsters in it would be awesome.
Yea, lack of a light gun sucks, but what are you going to do.

Re: 4-Player Controller Dock

Does it contain special circuitry or can you simply wire 4 controllers directly into an NES?
It has some special circuitry, but probably not anything that you couldn't do yourself. You might be better off just getting a four score, though. I think Wikipedia has some info on it.
hmmm, I looked but ...

Re: NEST build log

Could just shave the case down a bit. But I am liking the idea. A built in 4-player and game genie would be pretty sweet!

Plus, the larger size of the case would allow for much larger batteries that would create lot more on-the-road play time than a regular portable :)

Yea as for the size, I'm ...

Perhaps you may buy a smaller one.
Need a big case for a big screen. It's a portable not a handheld. I wanted something that two people could play anytime anywhere.

NEST build log

Well, I thought I would share my build log from the beginning, though it's gonna be slow going because I'll be in Paris next week so nothing's gonna get done on it.

So I'm calling this the NEST - Nintendo Entertainment System Take-along. It's in a pelican case with 10.4" screen and an original NES ...
