Well, I thought I would share my build log from the beginning, though it's gonna be slow going because I'll be in Paris next week so nothing's gonna get done on it.
So I'm calling this the NEST - Nintendo Entertainment System Take-along. It's in a pelican case with 10.4" screen and an original NES motherboard. It will have external jacks for the controllers (thinking of doing 4, but definitely 2), a built-in game genie, external jacks for both a/v and power. So lets begin with my first few pictures since this is the reason you are all here.
The case for my NEST.
The screen for my NEST.
The screen open because I need to cut down the casing to get it to fit.

HOLY FREAKIN MOTHER OF JESUS CHRIST! THAT CASE IS HUGE!
Perhaps you may buy a smaller one.

Need a big case for a big screen. It's a portable not a handheld. I wanted something that two people could play anytime anywhere.

Could just shave the case down a bit. But I am liking the idea. A built in 4-player and game genie would be pretty sweet!
Plus, the larger size of the case would allow for much larger batteries that would create lot more on-the-road play time than a regular portable

Yea as for the size, I'm debating between putting in storage for the controllers or a big 12v gel battery that will last forever.

Add some storage space for controllers or whatever.

L x W is fine, but the thickness is a bit overkill.

That may just justify the thickness.

Easily enough storage for a pair of powergloves
Tragically it won't be able to use a lightgun because of the LCD screen. A pair of holsters in it would be awesome.

Yea, lack of a light gun sucks, but what are you going to do.

Make it with a small crt. It's certainly big enough.

It's a BMA 11" TFT LCD Headrest Monitor With IR Transmitter. The IR Transmitter is for use with the BMA wireless headphones which I didn't get.

Just a quick update, I'm back in the country but only home for a week before I visit the other side of the US. I am slowly trying to pull stuff together for this, and will keep you all updated.

Decided today after I already pulled the screen apart, I would test it with an NES and it look great!
