Pickguards

Does anyone know where I can get a pickguard installed on my Ibanez Soundgear? If you could point me in the direction of a good place, that would rock. I really need something to cover all those unsightly scratches

Scratches add character!

I got a 1975 Fender Jazz Bass which has been well gigged and I wouldn't change it for anything. Mine does have a mirrored scratchplate (a-la Thin Lizzy).

What colour is your Ibanez?
I've seen people resort to cutting a bit of aluminium and sticking it to guitars (old project case perhaps?)

Yeah, my Fender is black too. Like I say, used guitars add character!

To me, this looks cool:

Custom make a scratch plate if you really want one - but I say leave the scratches visable.

... Doesn't the pickup cover get in the way though? Most people I know who own one of those removed it cause it was uncomfortable... And Fender added it for comfort

In my house we have 2 black guitars (1 in pieces on account of Tim redoing the body for the last 2-3 years) and a black bass. The little scratches show up like crazy. Why don't you make your own pickguard?
That's what I'd do. You can buy some blanks from www.warmoth.com or fender, and custom-cut yourself a pickguard! You could shape it like an N64 controller or something. Spell 1337 with it.

Mind you, you'd have to make it at least as big as the screw holes for the original. Unless your bass doesn't have one, and that's the problem. In that case go custom 100%.

That one's not mine but it's very similar (same maple neck).

Mine didn't have the pick guard when I got it. Never seen anyone use one with the pick guard in place to be honest.

I do still have the chrome bridge cover but that causes various earth problems so it's not fitted. Another weird idea from CBS-Fender

Well, it didn't have one to begin with, so how do I go about installation? I don't wanna drill through anything I shouldn't... I don't have a very steady hand, so I can't cut one myself... Is there a pickguard anyone knows of that just goes around the bottom of the pickup (split) and doesn't touch the front edge (where the tone/volume controls are)?

Oh, and CBS-Fender was so corporate. It was nothing like Fender's original idealism. He did some awsome work when he worked with Stingray (this was when CBS bought Fender). I don't like a lot of CBS's stuff, but some is okay...

hey, nice to see a fellow guitar (bass) player. i play guitar. if you want to get rid of the scratches you can refinish the body if you want. then be more careful with the bass. me, personaly dont care about scratches on my guitar.
