Ahhh the rubix cube. An enigma that has puzzled the minds of people all over the world. I finaly after a year picked up my old cube I bought just for the hell of it and decided I would solve it. After 7 or 8 failed atemptest to complete the damn thing I have finaly done it. Took me a grand total of 46 minutes to get it done. Still nowhere near the world record of 11.08 seconds (OMFG).

Anyone else solved this rather anoying puzzle? If you really enjoy mind games, go out and get one.

Man, they are AMAZING. Truly gods. It's just like the rubix cube is motorized, you barely see the hand turning it at all.

Oh yeah, I was sub-30-sec back in high school in the mid 80s (back then that was close to world-class) but I quickly got bored with it, especially after I was given a Rubik's Magic (4x4x4 cube) and couldn't even figure out how to solve it.

Recently I bought another 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube and I couldn't even remember how to solve the final layer! Now I learned again (the standard notation used now is different than the book I learned from back in the day, so I had to learn that too), but I'm not going for any speed records; it takes me 1-2 min to solve it these days. Another obstacle is that my new cube is colored differently from my old one - the new one has white opposite from blue, so there is no red/white/blue corner.

Hmmm ya that would kind of frig up the puzzle.

So far it seems good, I can do the first 2 sections in about 30 seconds but then get cought up aligning the edges. Still fun as hell tho. I bet the next time I solve it, now that i've actualy done it once i'll be able to shave off 25 minutes.

Thats an average for a normal speed cuber. Most people who actualy compete will average 16 to 20 seconds and some ever 11 to 16 seconds.

The speed at which these people can think and spin the cube is amazing. One distict advantages is they greese the inside of the cube so that they can literaly push a side around with one finger.

My one that I have is a crapy knock off woth about $1 and locks up a lot. I'm going to get a $9 one that everyone seems to use. Just so when I actualy can do it in -60 seconds I will be able too.

Has anybody seen the video of the guy who built a robot out of legos (specialized ones, of course) that solves a Rubik's cube? It's pretty cool.
