Halo 2.......on PC

Post by gamer2 »

thats right, Halo 2 is going to be on PC now, but only the new Windows VISTA will be able to run the game.
ign wrote:Today, Microsoft announced it will bring Halo 2 to the PC -- and more specifically, exclusively to the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. Microsoft Game Studios has set up a dedicated development team to work with Bungie on the project.

The PC version of Halo 2 will offer the full single-player campaign and multiplayer maps of the original Xbox version, with the addition of the content in the Multiplayer Map Pack as well as a tool for building and customizing levels.

Microsoft has not announced a release date for the PC version of Halo 2. The company did clarify, however, that the game will only run on Windows Vista and not on earlier versions of Windows.

Wildly popular on the Xbox console, Halo 2 continues where the first game left off. Having helped destroy the original Halo -- a religious artifact and artificial world -- super-soldier Master Chief returns to Earth, only to join a fierce new battle against the alien Covenant forces.

Halo first appeared on PC in September 2003, when Gearbox Software brought the Xbox hit to Windows, offering enhanced graphics and a classic mouse-and-keyboard FPS control scheme.

As the next iteration of Microsoft's ubiquitous Windows platform, Windows Vista will offer enhanced security, media handling, search and organization, and an overhauled user interface, among other features. Vista is expected to arrive in the second half of this year.

Interestingly, just last week Bungie posted job openings for PC programmers. While no specific project was revealed, it was clear the studio famous for the Halo series was planning something for mouse and keyboard users. While some suspected a new title, it also seemed likely the studio would bring Halo 2 to the PC. It isn't clear whether the PC positions are related to today's announcement, however.

well....it might be good but why would they only let Vista run it!? M$ is so gay. Leaving us users in the dust if we dont upgrade. Gates, Your rich enough, now make free upgrades to Vista god-damnit! The game will also probally be a crappy port so that no-one buys it, and they buy an xbox/xbox 360 insted

Halo == overrated. If I want to shoot people I play GoldenEye.

I suppose Microsoft is paying Bungie to wait on porting Halo 2, because Vista is going to suck and everyone will buy it if it has Halo 2.

Uh...harshboy...isn't Gates retired? Or did he just resign from president to CEO? I'm so confuzzled.

But who cares about a new operating system. Nobody here would actually BUY it! We'd download it!

Guys, cut them some slack. First, I'm sure it wasn't Bungie's idea to wait so long to do a port. Second, they had never even mentioned a port until now, so it's not like you've even been waiting. Bungie isn't ignoring PC gamers, they're owned by Microsoft, they don't have much of a choice in the matter. As for the quality of Halo, I personally think it and its sequel are excellent games, and that while the sequel may have been over-hyped, neither are overrated.

Well I'm agreeing with Black Six here, but still this is just wrong. Instead of just giving up the game they're using it to bait the faithful into buying Microsoft's new --.... How can I put it, virus magnet of an OS.

Really I think it would have been just fine in they had not release a PC port. Go on flame me, be really all this news does is irritate everyone. You all know why, because to play a game that came out for the Xbox you have to upgrade your whole system, a good $600+, not including the game. Really it's just a waste that this happened.

I think it's mostly an attempt at forcing people to upgrade to Vista. Vista has very few of the improvements/features that it was originally planned to have. At this point, it's mostly a new user interface with stronger DRM support. Microsoft knows its already going to have the "average user" market, the people that buy a Dell and use whatever it comes with for an OS, they're just trying to make a reason for the educated user to make the transition. I won't be supprised when I see a few popular titles that are being released only for windows Vista. I might buy a copy of Vista at some point, but that's about keeping myself viable in the computer support field. I'll probably stick with win2k for day to day use, it does pretty much everything that I want/need it to do.
