Problem with my DVD Drive (NEED HELP)

Ok i have had this drive for about a year and its a model lite on sohw 1633s and today out of no where it stopped reading my dvd r's (like it would just change in my computer to a cd drive and crap.) so i could backup my dvd. I have upgraded firmware and tried to restore my computer(it wouldnt restore to another point). Any Help is Welcome.

EDIT: The drive will burn dvds in nero and other programs but windows doesnt reckonize the media when i put it in and i have used this media the entire time i have owned it and i know its not the media failing.

maybe it just died. crap like this happens. is it under warranty still?

another possability is that a lot of the DRM technology that comes on game disks and music CDs kind of plays hell with optical drive drivers. if you have access to another computer you might want to try putting the drive in it to see if it works there or not.
