Thinking about SNESp

Post by Mr. Hawkins »

Well, I had a screen with LED's in it and an old SNES laying around so I thought HEY :o I could build a SNESp! The only problem is that is the large version. Still, I took off(with a vicegrip  ) the top and realized I could fit a lot of stuff inside. The only real question I have is whether the controller should just be at the bottom with the screen on top, or if the controller should be split and have the screen in the middle. Any suggestions?

Well, GBA SP style of course. Flipable screens always look awesome.

With a SNES, so, yeah, it can be done, and look superior! (Note: I'm using superior as an adjective to mean "awsome" and am no way dissing anyone else who has made an SNESp)

allthough its a bit hard to make em. The only portable I know of with a flip down screen is SNESguy's SNESp Fusion (Not counting all the PSone screen flippers).Anyway like daguuy, I also prefer landscape because the issue of top-heaviness is eliminated

Well here's a way to figure out how you want your portable setup. Do you like Gameboy, GBA or GBA SP? Depending which answer you prefer Portrait (Gameboy), Landscape (GBA) or Flip-screen (GBA SP).

Not to discurrege you but it will require a bit more work in making a flip top as you need to find the way to make the hing for the case. If you do go that way best example to look at for a simple way to make one is look at an older laptop. My Toshiba (cerca '97) has a hing that can be made easier then newer cases.

As for the controller ports location. Well would you mind having the cables infront of you or not?

How are you planning to build your case? ex project box, vac formed, engraving plastic, etc. this will affect your layout. If this is your first portable, I'd suggest possibly finding someone you know that has a MINI snes to trade for your big model. They're much easier to deal with. If you do end up using a biggie, then I commend you and good luck! :D

I'm going to keep the original bottom of the snes case and add on a top with the screen and controller in it. The only major modification to the system will be to rewire the cartridge slot  , which will probably go flush on the bottom.
