the best (and funkiest) Laptops

Hey guys, I'm in the market for getting a new laptop and since I know you know so much about them I need recommendations from you guys. What I'm looking for is a 1.8 to 2 Ghz, at least 80 gig HD, around 512 Ram and a resonable price. (But no Apples!!!111 I hate apples, oranges are better

) So i need your guys input.

you can get alienware sentia laptops for about 1.5k $ they look cool

Ya, anything in that range is gonna be around $1500. If you don't mind getting a Gateway they have a sweet laptop/tablet PC. It looks like a normal laptop. but then you can swivel the screen 180 degrees and fold it down over the keyboard and then you can write on it.

Since i'm going to a 3D Modeling school next year i'm gonna be getting a laptop/tablet PC when I start. Makes painting textures so much freaking easyer than with a normal USB tablet.

If your not interested in linux or any of the Unices, the HP Pavillion zv6000 series is a good choice. I have a zv6123, it meets all your specs, and I got mine around Augest for about $1050.

search ebay for ibm thinkpads. thinkpads are the best notebooks ever. you will not be dissapointed. to start you off, look up the R40 and T40 models.

I have a budget of up $1300
I'm looking for a more "formal" and "all around" laptop (Sorry Triton no Alienware for me

) More of a buisness laptop thingy.

Dell has had a pretty good line of notebooks. They have the Inspiron and the XPS which are very powerful and useful.

By far your best bet is www.ibuypower.com

if you click on the right panel on gaming laptops (Not just for gaming) is the easiest and best way to choose your parts.

My friend bought his from there. You can get a great set up for cheap. No joke. Question is AMD or Intel. Intel tends to be a bit more expensive but some people like them because they tell the exact clock speed. However amd is considered to be a better gaming processor. I would go with amd. Plus most of them come with wireless 802.11 g cards and DVD-RW drives. Oh and pretty cases

i would not reccomend getting an AMD laptop, mostly because of the heat issue. in fact, i wouldnt reccoment getting a P4 laptop for the same reason. go pentium M or celeron or something like that (maaaybe a turion). its supposed to be a laptop, not a supercomputer.

my thinkpad R40 has a 2.0GHz celeron, and it gets uncomfotably hot when you put it down on something soft (which you arent supposed to do). i can only pray for those with Athalons.

(also, my friend who has a dell and a thinkpad says that he hates the dell and wishes he never bought it. thats his opinion at least)

@homicidal: The thing about the Pentium 4 showing "exact clock speed" is the biggest crap I've ever heard. You can't even compare P4 clockspeeds with AMD\64 clocks because they both have WAY different architecture (AMD being better)! I rather don't feel like going on a rant about this, so all I'll say is that whoever thinks that the P4 is better soley based on clock speeds, is a n00b.
