Yea sorry if its crap but this is my custom painted controller and i am going to the the same scheme with my Gamecube and probably paint the d-pad black and the analogs also.
That's pretty nice. I'd especially love to see your GC painted that color. And yes, spray paint is torture on the brain. I once had a class in school where we used some form of substance that produces fumes every day. Let me tell you, we came away from each class period practically high.

Have you ever owned one of those gold N64 controllers, or something or the sort?
The paint on it wears away after a few weeks/months and it really doesn't look all that great. Although I suppose if it's good enough paint it'll hold. As for the D-pad and joysticks, that will wear away in a matter of days.
(I'm guessing)

sure:
The funky blue is Rust-Oleum: Hammered (cause' thats what it make you after sniffing it ) The black is Painters Touch By: Rust-Oleum Multi Purpose, and the silver is Rust-Oleum: Bright Coat METALLIC FINISH.
If it stays, that's pretty cool. I wouldn't do it though, but it's still really cool.
Perhaps you should paint designs on your cube. You have 6 perfectly flat surfaces, go wild! (Maybe get some of that 3M plastic tatoo paper and print out some nintendo collages or something)
