problem with the joystick

Post by JAY »

Everything was finished, and before putting the back cover on I decided to give it a quick run beforehand. The system and screen work "fine," although the screen gets a little fuzzy after a while, but main problem is that the joystick doesn't completely work. I can get response for up and down, but both left and right aren't working.

I'm not really sure how I could test where I'm having the problem, since I don't know which wires do what and how the signals for detecting movement work, and my controller board and joystick have already been glued into place (it's the original 64 controller, by the way). Does someone have any information that might help me out how to find where the problem is, i.e., what wires are for left/right movement? Thanks.

Edit: Okay, after testing it some more, the screen started malfunctioning: the screen goes white for a moment when I turn it on, and then the lights go completely off. This is an unmodded screen. If anyone has info about this, I'd also appreciate that.

Sounds like your batteries are crapping out on you. The screen needs at least 7.2v to run and your batteries are probably close to dead (what kind are they?)

I wouldn't bother emailing Ben , he's already got enough stuff to keep his time occupied (you probably won't get a response.)

Yeah, I already brought up the thing about the batteries in a different topic, after this one got no replies. I went to the powerizer site, and they said that new batteries don't charge especially well, since all of the cells aren't completely in sync yet, and so my charger, which detects when the batteries' voltage drops slightly, gets tricked into thinking they're charged already and will stop. They said to run 'em through a few cycles of discharging and charging, and that should make them function better.

But I'm still stuck on the joystick. I'll probably just have to rewire it.
