Hook up

I got the system powered up and the audio/video cables connected, but just get "blinking" on the screen -- no game video or audio. What is the RF plug on the back? Do I need to connect that to something? Any other tips to get it playing would be appreciated.

1. No you don't need to connect the RF signal if the video and audio are plugged in.

2. Have you tried blowing in the NES and the cart and or cleaning them out?

Jeez, havent you read bens book? Blowing doesnt work, its a common misconception.

Actually, it does work, but it also oxidizes the connections which in the long run is bad.

We'll it's always worked for me. I have also used rubbing alcohol for the cartridges.

I cover the cart with my shirt and blow into it, it seems to work so that's good enough for me, whether it actually helps or not. :p

What do you mean by blinking? Is the console resetting over and over (blinking power led), or is it blinking on the tv?

It will do both. If the cartridge is not inserted correctly or the connector is dirty, the screen will flash a random color (though for me it's always been white) and the power LED will blink in sync with it. Try using a cloth and rubbing alcohol on the cart connector, then bending the pins up to make better contact. If it persists, try cleaning the cart as well.

Also, blowing has always worked for me since my carts are very dustyâ€¦
