I know this has been in every post ever but do you guys think I shoud build a NESp as my first portable? It looked the cheapest in the book (besides the psone) If its not the right choice tell me the easiest one and the supplies ill need. Im only 11 years old so please dont try to confuse me and give me a hard one. Please respond asap because im going to an used game store tommorow.

lol. people around here dont try to confuse each other. its a friendly place.

from what ive seen discussed here on the froums, nes is one of the "easier" systems, but the level of difficulty is really dependant on what you try to do. if you jsut duct tape a ps1 screen to a NES system, connect a battery to the power input, and carry it around with a controller, you will have a very cheap an easy portable nintendo.

if you crack the thing open and unleash yourself upon its innards, theres 30245 ways that you could break it. same with any system. the advantage of NES is that they are cheap and expendable. heck, i have two that i got for like $5 at garage sales with 10 games.

search around on the forums and see what other people did. i wont tell you how to make your portable, beyond this:

you need a system, you need a screen, a battery, and a way to control it. most people use HipGear or PSone screens. a lot of people use batteries meant for RC cars. some people disasemble the controller and rearrange the buttons, but you dont have to. search for these things on the forums. do you know what S-video and RGB are? do you know how many pins you will have to desolder then resolder to move the cartridge slot? do some resarch. i dont know either, offhand, but im doing a n64

the choices you make depend if youre more out to get a feel for electronics work, plastic working, soldering, and electrical debugging, or if you just want a portable game system.

be aware of what you are getting into, and good luck

I'd start with whatever system you really enjoy playing. If you hate 8 bit games, don't build a portable NES. If you have a lot of PS1 games or backups for testing purpose, start with that. I would not try to mod your "only" system or anything you might try to rush so you can play it again. When you rush is when you make mistakes.

I think bad choices for first portables would be N64's (fragile, complicated), dreamcast (same) or anything expensive (slim PS2).

what are you talkin about! i start with N64. it's a challenge but not too hard or fragile (it is complicated though). do you have the book? it should tell you everything you need to know :)
